Tranquil
-----------

Morning calm over an irrigation pond near Morang Monastery in Spiti.

Far up in the hills, there is an unhurried calmness around mornings which blankets everything. Everyone, everything goes around their business in a tranquil manner. Grass swaying in the wind, the reflections on water and the sun silently climbing up in the sky. You sit there, close your eyes, feel the wind, enjoy the warmth of the sun and be at peace with everything. That is bliss.

This picture was taken early morning as I rode from Kaza towards Chandrataal. in the wide open valley, residents of the nearby monastery had dug a small pond for the irrigation. Grass and shrubs grew around it attracting insects.

Chamera Reservoir
-----------------

Early morning view of the Chamera Dam and reservoir.

On my Kanyakumari to Kashmir ride, I made an impromptu decision to veer off the typical NH44 highway from Pathankot and ride over the Sach Pass and take the Cliffhanger road to Kashmir.

Leaving early morning from Banikhet, I descended down towards the Chamera Dam. The sun was just rising over the mountains across the reservoir. Looking over the valley with a bird gliding over the breeze, there was a sense of calm before the exciting day I was to have ahead.

I waited a while to enjoy the calmness and also to let the sun rise a bit before taking this picture.

Stranded
-----------------

A boat stranded on a mud patch near the shore at Dhanushkodi, Tamil Nadu

Since the day I found out that there a road has been built to the end point in Dhanushkodi, I have been wanting to ride there. Around 10yrs back, when I rode to Rameshwaram, there was no road to Dhanushkodi. One had to hitch a ride at the back of a modified pickup truck which would drive over sand and water to get there. So 6 months after my last multi-day ride, I was itching to be on the road. And I also wanted to highway test the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 which I recently purchased.

Arichal Munai, is the place where the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean merge. Being a regular tourist point, it was crowded. So I headed back and stopped at a point where there were some local people hanging around on the beach.

Walking on the beach, I found boat stranded on high ground with a crow sitting on the edge. Seeing me the crow flew away and then came back as I retreated a little. We played this cat and mouse game for a while. As I would reposition myself to take a picture it would fly off and then come back after a circle.

Giants
---------

The windmills near Kanyakumari stand tall like the Don Quixote’s giants silently generating the power we all need.

I have been to Kanyakumari four times, three of those on a bike. Every time, these gentle giants by the side of this lake put me in awe. The setting is serene and beautiful. If only the sides of the lake were not so dirty, it would make for a lovely picnic spot.

This picture was taken on the day I started from Kanyakumari towards Kashmir. Having seen a beautiful sunrise at the coast, I started towards Bangalore with a mind to stop near this lake to photograph the windmills.
