Gurudongmar Lake

A 13 picture handheld panorama of the partially frozen Gurudongmar Lake.

Gurudongmar Lake, is one of the highest lakes in the world and is situated in the state of Sikkim in India. The lake, considered sacred by both Buddhists and Hindus, is named after Guru Padmasambhava, founder of Tibetan Buddhism who visited the lake in the 8th century.

This picture was taken on a visit to North Sikkim on a family trip. The barren landscape contrasts well with the blue waters and snow capped peaks.

Bridal Boat
---------------
A bridal face painted beautifully on the bow of a fishing boat at Velankanni, Tamil Nadu.

On a recent bike ride to coastal Tamil Nadu, I stopped at the church town of Velankanni. There I saw most boats painted with the face of a woman. When I asked my hotel’s caretaker, he did not have a good explanation. Or maybe I did not understand well. All I could comprehend was that it is a bridal face or manappan.

This picture was taken when I wandered in a port for small fishing boats searching for boat silhouette against the setting sun. I was fascinated to see all the boats painted with a woman’s face on the bow. This one stood alone away from the others as if she has taken offense from her friend and sitting away.

The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is one of the prettiest treks in the country. If you haven't as yet, do give it a shot, and thank me later.

#kashmirgreatlakestrek is probably the prettiest high altitude trek in the country. Spread over seven days, you get to cross three passes at close to 14000 feet above msl. And the views!!?? What can one say about those!!??
