Large downloads fail on wired LAN but not over wifi!

I get a wetransfer.com link to download a file, say around 450MB.

I start the download on my PC connected to the modem via cable and it invariably fails 9.8 times out of 10.

I start the same download on my laptop over wifi and the download completes.

On the PC I get 1-1.3MB/s download speeds (over a 16Mbps Airtel FTTH connection). The laptop shows around 2-2.3Mb/s on the same connection for the same file.

Can any forum member enlighten me as to what could be going on here?

I would suspect the CAT5 cable first.
If changing that does not help then it is probably the LAN card in the PC misbehaving.

Sandeep sir, I am not sure what might be causing the issue.
Just to check, have you noticed that download fails after certain time (for example exactly after 10 mins or so) and completes before this time period?
maybe some setting timeouts the connecting after a certain time interval.

Process of elimination to start... :)

No fixed time frame. Sometimes right in the beginning of the download. Sometimes heartbreak almost at the end.

Don't Stop, You are just a step away.
Sir ji
1. It can be due to Power Policies,
May be your PC is going in "Sleep Mode" after some time.
once it goes in sleep mode all active connection gets closed. you won't know because the moment you touch mouse or press any key, it will wake up.
check "Power Options">"Change Plan Settings"> "Change Advance Power Settings"
if you have given sleep time. then change it to Never or Increase sleep time.

2. It can be related with LAN Card. unable to hold the connection for long time when over loaded with high data transfer or over heated due to data transfer.

^ Thanks. The power settings are as per what you advocate.

Surprisingly, torrent downloads work fine. Let me investigate with a change of cable and then, if required, get to the LAN card.
