Hi all,
We, friends are planning to go for Leh Ladakh Biking in the month of Aug. Can someone help me with the following queries ? This, being my first trip to Ladakh, questions might be very basic or silly.:p

1. Which one should I go for? A self planned one or the trip planned by tour operators?
2. If I'm planning on my own, From where should I hire bikes? I see lot of Bike renting web sites in Manali.? Can I hire bikes from Chandigarh itself? Is it suggested? Any contacts for renting bikes in Manali or Chandigarh?
3. I heard that tour operators in Leh are not allowing outside registered bikes? Is it true?
4. What is the procedure to get permission for Rohtang pass in Manali?

Any other tips and links regarding Leh biking are also welcome..:)

Thanks in Advance.:)

If you don’t need a backup vehicle or someone to book everything for you and take you along, you can ride on your own.

Best bet is to bring your own motorcycles. Shipping them both ways would be far cheaper than hiring a motorcycle and less complex as well.

You can hire motorcycles from Delhi, Chandigarh, and Manali. Irrespective of where you hire them from, once you make it to Leh, you will need to hire a motorcycle from Leh union to ride to Khardung La, Nubra Valley, and Pangong Tso. Rest of the places can be covered on motorcycles rented from elsewhere.

Getting a permit for Rohtang Jot is easy, at least it was until last year. Let's see what this year hold.
