DAY 1
Route : (NH3)Mumbai - Nashik - Dhule - Maheshwar.

Distance - ~ 520 kms.

Road conditions:-
*Many tiny and deep pot holes on smooth tarmac till Shahapur.
*Shahapur to Nashik was smooth and fast.
* Ojhar to Malegaon has countless no. of speed breakers with caution board situated just next to it and goes unnoticed.
* Malegaon to Dhule was super smooth.
* Dhule to MP was probably the best road I have ever rode till date, apart from NH4 section of Karnataka.

Started at 5:30am and reached at 4pm.

I was on this way on the route back from Chittaurgarh. Since we had left late,we stayed at Ratlam.
Unfortunately from Ratlam to Mumbai, we had the sun continuously in the eye for the entire 12/13 hours of drive.

The speed breakers on this road, especially on NH3 are new. I hadn't seen so many last year.

We need to do something about the excessive speed breakers in Maharashtra. In Mumbai, there's a 4km stretch between Andheri and Juhu Scheme which has about 20 speed breakers. Might as well walk.

Well the speed breakers are good, because of the villagers crossing the road without looking to and fro. I came across many people, although I controlled my anger. The best speed breakers are in the city of Bangalore, long and gradual which are more effective on speed and less effective on out back.
LOL, true about Andheri and Juhu scheme.

I booked the room at Hansa Heritage, when I was having my lunch just 100 kms before Maheshwar in some Dhaba.
Surprisingly, the rates were cheap and the room was top notch. It had that vintage feel to it including the courteous staff. The hotel is situated 5 minutes away from Ahilyabai fort and has a secured parking to it. Highly recommended.

An evening stroll by the banks of Narmada river and cheap boat ride took us to stand alone Baneshwar Mahadev temple. We did not get down as there were a group of foreigners already on that small island and it looked too crowded. Well, I say "WE" because I met 2 fellow riders here, who were heading to Bhutan from Nashik on a month ride. It was fun talking to them for a while, where they advised me on Do's and Don'ts on motorcycle ride to North east in June.
By late evening, I wandered around the streets and bought famed Maheshwari saree for my mom. The sarees are mostly weaved by women and are made by using vegetable dyes. The mix of silk and cotton makes this saree ideal for warm Indian climate and of course the beautiful colours and the golden borders.

The entrance of the temple runs parallel to Rajwada of Ahilyabai museum

Overall the ghats are clean but there are few small places where one would see the some temple stuff floating on water.

Day 2
Maheshwar - Dol - Mandav road.

Always referring to google maps is not the solution in a new place. It took me 2 and half hours to reach Mandav(Mandu) from Maheshwar. Initial plan was to extend till Ujjain and come back to Mandu next day, however it changed at the last moment.
There is an internal route which bifurcates towards left as recommended by MP tourism board from on NH3. I followed that and it wasn't a pleasant ride. There is a beautiful small ghat section(Vindhya ranges) towards Mandu which has good views.

I got a shabby room for 500 bucks as the occupancy was high in all other hotels( There are only few in numbers) on the main road. I started at 2 pm from Jahaz Mahal Palace. Lets take a photo tour of Maheshwar from the morning, before we go to Mandu.

Excellent captures.
We had been to Maheswar in 2013 on our return from Omkareshwar to Indore.
As you rightly said, the river and banks are very clean.
Thanks for sharing.
