Just came back from leh via manali yesturday in my i10....just got 1 dent due 1 river crossing....
otherwise road is not that bad for small cars...this was another patch near to above shown in video...here we managed to cross the stream in one go without thinking too much abt car damage...and we cleared it without any damage..:)
Kudos sir,
On clearing the stretch in an i10. I saw a santro stuck at the same patch for a day. That too a UA reg. No.

Nice shot buddy....and well done.....i would have loved the shot of i10 here...

This makes my belief very strong on Hyundai vehicles....they are made for Indian roads...no matter which part...
They perform on highways, village roads, foothills, greater himalayas....All terrain vehicles.....specially Santro and i10...i saw Tucson having tough time even climbing Rohtang in 2007..

bottomline....i am also a proud owner of i10 (and a santro earlier, with 3 leh circuits with it).....these cars rocks......

Hi Harsh, on this stretch, i feel what matters is the driver.....!!

ya i10 worked perfectly fine on this route....I have not faced single problem in entire route...
This patch was the only hurdle which possess tough challenge against us.....but key to pass that patch in small car is to give yourself some time in analyzing the patch...and than in Ist gear without putting any break,u need to run ur car as fast as u can through that patch....

reached delhi today.roads in barlachala are good on one side, but narrow bwcause of the ice.water crossings are a pain here and hence it is advisable to cross it in the morning if possible. tanglangala was in bad shape as well. rest of the manali - leh stretch is pretty decent.

Dheeraj, there are no great tricks that can be used.
In slush and snow, you will likely lose steerage; not much you can do about it! You might need people outside to help change the car's heading!

You'll have to maintain some momentum; sad part about 2WD cars. If you feel loss of traction and wheel spin, do not try to rev your way through - you'll only bog yourself down deeper.
Try to get out of the situation in reverse, steer the wheels both ways and try, or use rocking motion back & forth to create some space and try to get out.

Water is different. You need to pull over to a side and watch other vehicles cross.
Fix a clear trajectory that you will follow and go through it without let up! If the water is deep, make sure to keep engine revs high so as to preclude water ingress into the exhaust pipe.
You may have to do a recce on foot to select the best path!

Never do any half clutch manoeuvres anywhere! Surest way to get stranded with a burnt clutch plate!
In all such situations gear change is to be avoided. Choose a low gear before entering and complete the crossing in that gear.

Thanks Anup Sir I will definitely try to remember these tips...the gear change and reverse shift would surely help s atleast now i know what to try :)....prior to it it was just assumptions and some IQ which had us going....
