From my recent experience I would suggest if anyone who is travelling in small car, should only cross the streams near baralachla pass in morning. Take a halt in Sarchu, and then in morning it would be easier to cross the streams. We reached that stream near baralachla at about 1 PM.But as other vehicles got stuck in that stream, we waited for 4-5 hrs. And till that time water level got high and we got back to Sarchu.

Next in morning 6AM, we reached that point again and at about 1 PM we crossed that stream. This was again due to one Winger got stuck in that stream.
Try to avoid travelling after sarchu in evening.

Just reach home 45 min before from heaven. i was stucked in baralacha on 24th june. I started at 5 Am from Leh and reached Sarchu at around 1 Pm in my Indigo. Had lunch in Sarchu and reached baralacha Nala at around 2.30 Pm. I crossed Nala easily and was waiting for my turn after crossing Nala and bridge. I recived signal from Police person at around 5 PM to start.
Started my car engine and pressed the pedal of accelator, about to fly my car, but suddenly saw that an inova is coming from front and trying to cross ........... and it was stucked there. I waited there for another 2 hours and decided to come back at Sarchu.
Next day weather was not good and I decided to wait at sarchu untill I get news that everything is Ok at Baralacha. Around 12 noon I saw one vehicle is coming from manali side. He informed me that things are better now. I decided to try my luck again and reached that point at 2 PM. Things were same as previous day. My turn come at around 4. Local taxi people were trying to overtake me in the fear that me will stuck and they will be late as I was driving Indigo.
I started my engine.......... And vrooooooooooooooom. I kept my car left as possible and I suddenly relize that I had crossed it. I can not forget this 5 second drive in my whole life and cannot express that experience in words. 1st gear.... 4000 RPM...... 50-60 KM per hour.... fear in my mind for not to stuck.... excited to cross it successfully..... One word in my mind for that experience...... that is 'ADHBHUDH"

That local driver was stucked who was trying and saying that I will not be able to cross. But I did not bother and started my engine again and flied my car to enjoy the beauty of Baralacha

Guys,

Since a couple of you have just been through the worst on this road in a car (sedan), I have a couple of questions:

1. Would cleance be a big issue for a Swift Diesel?

2. Do you go through a nalah with deep water / slush / mud at full revs at speed or at a steady constant speed in first gear?

I have a question - the river everyone is writing about is on the north side of Barachala. Travelling from Leh direction do you have to pass this obstacle uphill? Would it be easier travelling from the south?

In any case we will be coming from Manali in a hired jeep, with a hopefully very experienced driver on 8th July.

I am enjoying all the postings, pictures and videos. Thanks to all of you.

Well, We(read me, my wife, Harsh nanchahal and his wife) were there on the 25th, the the three cars which we saw stuck there were 2 swifts and one desire. Dont know if it has to do anything with the car or it is just a chance.

The place people are talking about right now is a nallah with lot's of water and big rocks below. In that, in my opinion, you need to cross it at one go with good speed. We saw one car going slowly and getting stuck in the middle and it couldn't come out at all!! We maneuvered past it. Slush and mud might be different which you might have to cross slowly at constant speed.
