Mannat home stay, Bairagarh
We stayed at Mannat on October 3, 2019. Despite knowing about the presence of Chamunda hotel there, we opted for Mannat as we had spoken to the owner Mr.Rakesh Kumar before the start of our journey and hence thought that it’d be unethical to stay elsewhere, although we had not paid any advance amount. Also, being declared as a homestay, we had hoped for some homely touch – that was another reason for choosing it.
Pros
1. Located right on the bus stand. Chamunda is located a little away on the other side of the road.
2. We chose a room on the second floor terrace, and the rent was Rs.1000. The room was spacious and comfortable. Mannat provides good views of the mountain peaks and Tissa road in front – so does Chamunda.
3. There is a dhaba in the ground floor, which provides food to all local passengers on Tissa-Killar road. So food is perhaps available all the time.
Cons
1. The steps are a bit steep, particularly the ones starting from road. Carrying luggage on those steep and narrow steps was really troublesome.
2. Except for 2 or 3 rounds of tea, we did not get any room service.
3. The geyser had power, but only normal cold water was coming out of it. When the owner, who was at Chamba at that time, was contacted for providing a bucket of hot water, he simply said that people were busy serving the dhaba, and hence nothing might be available.
4. Communication with them was a bit difficult. Babloo, the owner’s younger brother who was managing everything, did not have much time to listen to us.
5. There were frequent power cuts. A candle was given after much persuasion, but no matches were provided. In fact they did not care to remember it.
6. No bottled / treated water was available for drinking.
7. The toiletries used by / provided for the previous guests were left in the washroom for us. The towel was emitting foul odour.
8. It rained at night, and we had a tough time going downstairs for dinner as, not only the terrace was open, but the stair had large uncovered openings in the side.
9. The quality of food readily available in the dhaba was barely manageable. A vegetable dish made of besan (gramflour) balls had to be left almost untouched. The dinner was ordered with tawa rotis and egg curry and it was better.
10. At night, the door to the terrace was locked from inside. We discovered it in the morning. Hadn’t had our driver come to hand over his phone for charging, we’d have to wait for them to open it and we couldn’t have started the journey on time. When we went downstairs for checking out at seven in the morning, nobody could be seen, although the owner had earlier said that they would prepare something for breakfast. (Of course, we cleared all the payment on the previous night.)
Conclusion : Mannat home stay is recommended for stay at Bairagarh only if other options are not available / explored.
