Map: Ladakh & Zanskar (All routes)

Tried to combine all existing route maps of the Ladakh & Zanskar region into one umbrella for our reference. I hope it would be useful for others as well. The Nubra + Chanthang part already existed on this thread.

Adding everything that is west of Leh. There are further routes that could still be mapped on this one, however instead of making everything in one go, I would prefer to share a non-finalized map.

Right click the below Ladakh and Zanskar Map and save the image file to view in higher resolution, since resolution is scaled according to screen resolution.

Hi Harsh...

can u pls help me with the map for Hanle to tso moriri via chumur,,, and is there any alternate route since chumur permit seems to be difficult now a days.

Hello Harsh, just dropped by to say Thank you for the awesome map. Used it all throughout my first tour of Ladakh this year. Also for the detailed and informative travelogues on Zanskar and Changthang, Really appreciate it :)

Should have done this before, a whole lot of thanks to your hard work in making the map. We used it extensively during our trip and in planning for it. There are though multiple routes in and out of Chumur. It is probably a good idea to mark Ukdungle too. There's a lot new road work happening there, maybe they'll open that route up soon.

Google maps used to show a road from Chumur to Ukdungle earlier, but when I visited Chumur back in 2010, there was absoultely nothing after Chumur to go to. No road - work. Zilch.
Did you see construction happening there somewhere? Geographically it did not make sense, but when did BRO care about geography to build roads, eh ;-)?

I should have been clearer, it is more of a track or a leveled road than a road as we know/call think of it ;-)

Construction: below is a screencap from 32.597837, 78.962981 on Bing. For some reason Bing seems to have much sharper maps for the region when it is available at max zoom.

One of the construction-related installations on the Tso Moriri - Charchagan La can be seen at 32°54'24.16"N, 78°22'0.83"E on Google Earth. It is pretty massive.

What you see (and what we are discussing on the Khargok fort thread) is obviously not the road to Chumur - but probably to Zarsar camp!

P.S: I did see that construction camp at the coordinates you mention. Seems massive. I think this is the one I saw from the opposite bank, near Karzok.

Shyam, I predict you will be doing Ladakh runs for the next 2 years at a go! You've been stuck there, like I have been :)

Harsh, I would like to tell you my observation from recent ride to Leh...
I met two different group of people, both from Mumbai... Both were carrying a print of your map... When i saw the map i jumped to talk to them thinking they were from BCMT... Both never heard of BCMT site.... :(
They told me they got the map from friends or someone...
Such is the popularity of your map...
Congratulations... and Thank you so much.... :)
