Map: Nubra Valley + Changthang (Ladakh)

considering that swift did cross Batal - Chatru last year, what would you say about attempting Wari la ??
I have not done Wari La ever - but from what I hear - it will be difficult but doable.

Wari La has the steepest gradient amongst all passes - even the Safari crawls on 1st gear for a long long time. However most of the climb is tarmac barring the last stretch. With proper skills and patience it should be doable. But only after mid - July. Wari la opens late.

completely agree with Harsh. Wari La has the steepest gradient amongst all the usual passes but still it has been successfully attempted by non 4x4 vehicles.

Although I have not been to Wari La, but after the discussions with people who have done it, I can say that it can be done in Swift but with lot of caution. Also, make sure the car is not fully loaded.

there wont be many water crossings while climbing Wari La. May be one or two. There are not many spots where you can hit the underbelly. Most of the distance is well tarred. However the real toughie is the steep inclines and that too long ones. Some of the bends are very tough with steep inclines and one need to be careful and cautious in attempting them. Once i misjudged such bend and had to reverse which was quite dangerous and then engage 4x4 to gain power and momentum to cross that section. Most of the time you will have to rely of the first gear itself.
