Maruti Vitara Brezza to be launched only with diesel engine?
6 hours ago by Tushar Kamath
View Forum Discussion It looks like Maruti may follow the footsteps of the S-Cross while launching the all-new Vitara Brezza compact SUV. According to a report, Maruti will launch the Vitara Brezza as a diesel only model, with the petrol engine being restricted to exports, at least initially.
The diesel variants of the Vitara Brezza are expected to be propelled by the Fiat sourced 1.3L engine that already powers models like the Ertiga MPV and Ciaz sedan. The reported exclusion of a petrol engine would understandably cause the compact SUV to lose out on a fairly large share of its potential buyer base, but Maruti is expecting sales of around 10,000 units a month.
The Vitara Brezza petrol is expected to get a 1.5L M Series engine, with the car reportedly being exported to markets like Indonesia. The variant could be offered in India at a later stage.
Maruti Suzuki has teased the Vitara Brezza on multiple platforms and the car will be unveiled at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The formal launch and price announcement is expected in March 2016. With this model, Maruti will target the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300 sub-4 metre compact SUVs, while undercutting rivals like the Hyundai Creta.
Just days before its official unveil at the Auto Expo 2016, the Maruti Suzuki Vitara variants have been revealed. The Maruti Vitara Brezza is the company's entry in the compact sub-4m SUV segment in India.
There will be six trims of the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza - LDi, LDi (O), VDi, VDi (O), ZDi and ZDi+. The details of each variant are listed below:
Maruti Vitara Brezza LDi
The base trim or LDi as we know it will have twin pod headlamps with the turn indicators on the bumper and will get 15-inch steel wheels. There will also be an 'SUV body kit' which we believe is Maruti-speak for side cladding. Front power windows, a parcel tray, manual AC, tilt steering, manual day/night IRVM, speed sensitive door locks, Bluetooth-enabled music system and a driver foot rest will be offered. Driver airbag will be standard across the range.
Maruti Vitara Brezza LDi (O)
This trim gets all the features from the LDi and also brings in a front seat belt pretensioner, a passenger airbag and ABS with EBD.
Maruti Vitara Brezza VDi
Blacked out floating A,B and C pillars, front-rear black skid plates, black roof rails, full wheel cover and body-coloured door handles are the features which distinguish the VDi from the LDi. Maruti is also offering keyless entry, a gear shift indicator, rear power windows, driver-side seat back hook which can carry loads up to 3kg, seat back pockets, passenger vanity mirror, rear seat headrests, fabric insert on door and fabric roof lining. Additionally, an electromagnetic tail gate and security alarm are also available.
Maruti Vitara Brezza VDi (O)
The O trim is usually the safety options pack that Maruti now offers with almost its entire range of cars in India. This one brings in the same safety features like the LDi (O) - passenger airbag and ABS with EBD.
Maruti Vitara Brezza ZDi
Bigger 215/60 R16 tyres on alloy wheels, projector headlamps with LED DRLs, front fog lamps, chrome front grille, gunmetal grey roof rails, front and rear silver skid plates. Inside, there is auto AC, a piano-black centre console with side louvre rings, 60:40 split rear seats, driver-side seat height adjuster, steering wheel with audio controls, rear window washer and wiper, mood light in speedometer, sun glass holder in over head console, chrome inside door handle, higher grade fabric seats, vanity mirror lamp and boot accessory socket as well as lamp. On the safety front, dual front airbags and ABS with EBD are available.
Maruti Vitara Brezza ZDi+
Auto headlamps, rain sensing auto wipers, electric folding ORVMs, turn indicators on ORVMs, keyless entry and push button start, reverse parking camera, Smartplay infotainement w/ CarPlay, inbuilt navigation w/Mapcare (which updates your map data with every service), cooled upper glovebox, cruise control with a switch on the steering wheel, sliding front armrest with storage and front seat belt height adjuster. The ZDi+ also gets dual tone paint option.
In terms of drive ability in city I feel 1.3 DDiS 75 PS is much better than 90 PS.
So I shall see no much issue with 75 PS and 190 N-M torque. When Duster / Terrano 85 PS and 200 N-m torque has got drive ability.
My guess is it will be only with 1.3 DDiS 75 PS on LDi and VDi
1.3 DDiS 90 PS on ZDi
Looking at Features 1.3 DDiS 75 PS VDi [O] will be a good option to but if priced rightly at Rs 8.2 -8.4 Lacs ex-showroom. Pricing higher for this variant will not help MSIL is my opinion [they they are not passing the Excise benefit to customers].
