Hey I live in Pune and next month i am planning a road trip to Matheran. Can you tell me something about the place and what mode of transport should I use?

Use car if possible.
If you love toy train book in advance.
I forget the name of the station but one have to stop their car at that station, and have to go walk, or by horse.
It is Dasturi Point.
Car goes upto Dasturi Point then from there it is 30 to 40 minutes walk

It's a very beautiful hill station, and there are many points and one beautiful Charlotte lake. Must go at Eco Point by hiking

Sunset point is also very beautiful.

Whole Matheran hill station was developed by Britishers.
Matheran was discovered by Hugh Poyntz Malet, the then district collector of Thane district in May 1850. Lord Elphinstone, the then Governor of Bombay laid the foundations of the development as a future hill station. The British developed Matheran as a popular resort to beat the summer heat in the region.
Even many points were named after them

Hi Amit.
Matheran is a beautiful hill station. But what makes it beautiful is no cars or two wheelers are allowed inside Matheran. So if you take your own car or bike, you have to park it in a designated parking lot onmatheran and walk around for the rest of your trip there. So I would suggest carry less luggage.

As for reaching Matheran, there is a charming toy train that leaves Neral station for Matheran at 6:40 am everyday. The journey is short, takes about 3 hours and beautiful. You can find daily trains from Pune to Neral, I feel.

Matheran is charming, and has a lot of vintage heritage bungalows. You can find plenty of good places to stay. What you can do here is walk around, chill, go to interesting view points etc. it’s very beautiful in the rains and in winters. A romantic place to visit, you must go there at least once. It is a laid back place and don’t expect a lot of Lonavala kind of buzz. I think that’s that charm of Matheran.
