Patli Dun, Kothri Dun, Pinjore Dun and Dehra Dun are all valleys in the Shivaliks.

The Doon valley is the watershed between the Yamuna and Ganges river systems.

The Yamuna and Ganges are closest to each other as they pass the Doon valley, with the Yamuna forming the western boundary and the Ganges the eastern.

We found Dehradun to be a pleasant place.

Dehradun is home to the Indian Military Academy.
Important national institutions such as the Survey of India, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Wildlife Institute of India and the Forest Research Institute are all located here.

Indian Institute of Petroleum and the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation are both headquartered here.

The Doon School, St. Joseph's Academy, Convent of Jesus and Mary, Rashtriya Indian Military College, St. Thomas' College, Welham Girls School and Welham Boys School are some of India's elite schools; all based in Dehradun.

On 9 November 2000, this important city of north India became the capital of UK.

No wonder, this structure is historic!

Mussoorie lies 6000 ft above the city, the distance by road is 35 km.

On a clear night the lights of Doon Valley, Roorkee, Saharanpur & Haridwar can be seen glittering in the distance.

The name comes from a shrub named "mansoor"

We have our house in Dehradun also, at the Rajpur Road. We drive to Doon and Mussoorie atleast 6 times a year.
Looking forward for more of Mussoorie.

Rajpur road is a really nice area. We had stopped there for lunch.

It is the main commercial hub, and the center for nightlife and dining.

lovely pics :)

what did you shopped there
Thanks, Alpha!

I bought some beer over there.
In the evening, the liquor store downed the shutters. But.they continued to sell the wines and spirits from the partly opened shop.
Now they were charging 10 - 20 rupees extra on each bottle sold.

Some cops were standing outside the wine shop.
They were not just watching.
After every few bottles sold, one bottle was given free to the policemen!
So, in actual fact, customers were bribing the corrupt cops for their requirement for liquor while on a holiday !!,

In anticipation of a splendid time to be had at a hill station, such words spring to the mind.
With each twist and turn, as we approach Mussoorie, the excitement begins to mount.

And then, once we reach, this is what we encounter.
GARH HIM GANG YAM 100.jpg

A mile long traffic jam.
Like being caught up in a jumble of cars on the Peeragarhi or Mukarba flyover !!

And they are all jostling for parking space which is the most precious commodity in Mussoorie.

The cops look on helplessly.

Who are more bewildered. the policemen, the drivers or the parking attendants?

The ground level parking is full.
The next one is up two steep inclines.
Only one car can approach, otherwise it might skid back and hit the next vehicle.

Nice intro to the mayhem and the madness of Mussoorie!

Many plains-folk get their first glimpse of the snow-covered Himalayan peaks of western Garhwal on a honeymoon trip or a summer break at Mussoorie.
Mussoorie's mountain panorama is dominated by the long Bandarpunch Massif (6316m), with Swargarohini (6252m) in the west and the Gangotri group in the east.

But many visitors don't seem to notice the mountains, as they are busy looking at each other as they walk up and down the Mussoorie Mall.
