1. Forget 3G. If you are looking for VFM, the pricing for 3G data is way too high. It will also affect your battery life and coverage is, well, let us say, extremely limited now. It is pointless paying a premium for data when about 150 kms out of a city, you wind up with the same network/speeds as a regular GPRS user is going to get.

2. It will be tough finding a good package at under 10k. Try and increase the budget a bit. There is a Blackberry (Brand New Blackberry 8110 GSM Mobile Phone Black With Vendor Warranty gifts in india at rediff shopping.) under 10k available. I have no idea how good the seller is, but the phone is rock solid and a workhorse. No 3G/Wifi, though.

3. I think only the more recent versions of iFawn, probably starting with the 3G model, has GPS in it. The one selling at 10k is probably the first generation one that does not have GPS.

What is the intended usage anyway?
Hi,

I am using Blackberry Pearl(8110) costed about 13000Rs from Vodafone and it works though edge. GPS is activated when the Blackberry Enterprise Solution is active. Though cost Rs900 every month for the solution.
Would agree a rock solid phone however one major drawback. It hangs a lot. Hence i would suggest go for the latest Blackberry phone like Strom which has more advanced feature and long battery life.

Need a PDA fone (budget Rs. 8-12K)

After a brief research session, I have decided to buy a stand alone GPS (Garmin etrex Vista hcx) and a separate PDA fone for internet surfing.

Within this week I'll place the order for GPS. importing from USA.

Now I need a PDA phone basically for net surfing. Ive heard that these fones have good battery backup and are meant for business purpose. And this is what I need.

My budget is Rs. 10,000/- approx.

1. which model ?
2. Can I get this fone in India in reasonable rates or shall I import this too ?

..

Don't import the phone, you can easily buy it from India, unless it is something which is not yet available here.

As for the model, are you looking for a proper PDA or just a phone with GPRS capabilities?

2. Somebody advised me to get the recently launched cheap wala Apple I phone from USA and get it unlocked. Iphone costs Rs 10,000 and unlocking Rs. 1,000.
Suggest.
Y.S. can you elaborate on Iphone costs Rs. 10,000 ?? you mean the second hand 2G ones??

And, you don't need to pay 1,000 for unlocking / jailbreaking. I have unlocked it myself. It's very easy. Jailbreaking guides/forums are very detailed.

That is the price of iphone with contract, however some coming back from US buy it and then fly back to India, knowing that their mobile phone company wouldn't bother coming to India after them.
