Need help in planning a trip to Arunachal Pradesh on bike

Hi,

I am back on this forum after a long time. I recall people here really helping me plan some of the best trips of my life. Thanks again to all.

I need to plan a trip to Arunachal Pradesh starting April 15th. We plan to take Rajdhani on April 15th, along with the bike, and then proceed accordingly. I have a lot to ask, would be glad if someone could help.

1. April - Is it a good time to go – weather wise?

2. We haven’t decided the return date as of now. How many minimum days are needed to visit the place, including the train travel?

3. Can anyone help me plan a detailed itinerary, which should include Tawang, Madhur lake, Ziro, and all other suggestions are welcome. Would be glad if you could provide information about getting ILP as well.

4. Apart from this, I have a little weird request as well. Since this will be my first bike trip as a pillion rider, could anyone please motivate/suggest ways to make it a bit comfortable? Suggestions about gears, placement of bag, or anything that you could think of would be really appreciated.

5. Also, is it worth to carry a tent there? Could you suggest places where we can pitch our own tent?

Thanks a lot in advance. Would be glad if someone could help.

Hi mamta

Good to hear you are interested in Arunachal..

Frankly April is not a good time to visit the state... Check weather before heading...

Motorcycle ride will be awesome in those region... Ziro is best in monsoon

I am not a biker so no much idea about accessories

I can’t help you with North-East plan, Tapas and other experts on North-East will do that.

However, as far as riding gear part goes, here are my suggestions:

1. You need to pack light, otherwise, there will be a lot of gear on the motorcycle and as pillion, you will become uncomfortable. Buy riding gear that can be worn daily throughout the ride i.e. riding jacket and pants, this will reduce the need to carry multiple clothes for daily wear and also protect you from the elements and in the case of an accident.

2. Buy saddle bag and a tank bag, and try and fit all the luggage in them. Don’t carry anything on your back, as it will not only tire you out but can also end up straining and injuring your back.

3. Get a gel seat cover or cushion you can put over the seat, even if the seat is comfortable. Since the cloth of saddle bag is rarely comfortable and can end up causing discomfort on a long ride. Alternatively, you can get the seat modified with better cushioning.

4. Take frequent breaks to stretch yourself and drink water on a regular basis, it will help you keep the fatigue away.

Hi @Mamta I've planned my trip to Arunachal and Meghalaya from April 14th to 23rd. My family of 3 covering Sela pass, Bumla, Sangetsar, Tawang Monastery in Tawang, then head to Kaziranga for both Jeep and elephant safari, then proceed towards Shillong for covering Cherrapunji, Dawki and Mawlynnong and then finally return to Guwahati. We are doing it in a self drive car hiring starting from Guwahati and ending at the same place.

Regarding ILP it is quite easy. I've got for us last week through http://www.arunachalilp.com/ page. It is the best way to get ILP before hand itself rather than standing / waiting at various locations. It costs Rs. 100/- per person. You can upload passport photo and document proof (both size less than 40KB) and get it in a day. So easy to get it.

For Bum la you can get pass one day before only. So you can tie up with the local stay there at Tawang.
Kaziranga closes by April 30th and re opens in Spetember obnly. So plan accordingly.
Thanks a lot to @sanuroxz and @mousourik for helping me in planning a trip. The link is given below:

@sanuroxz. I had applied atleast 12 times for 3 persons to finally get approved :Hangman:. Both passport sized photo and ID proof should be less than 40 KB. I don't know with that very poor image quality how do they even check the ID proof number:lol:. For children or minor one must write accompanying father's or mother's or care taker's approved ILP number in remarks column.
Like above the rules are not clearly mentioned in online ILP application procedure but you can learn it like how in India one fights to get a correct voter ID. \\:D/
