I started at 6 am from Gurgaon and reached Mandi at 8.30 PM (including 2 small breaks for 1.5 hour in total). I stayed in Munish Resort at Mandi and proceed to Manali in second day.

    Hi guys,

I am going to Manali through Shimla and coming back directly from Manali. Going with my wife and 4 year old daughter.

    Day-1 : Gurgaon-Timbertrail-Kasauli (Night stay Kasuali)
Day-2 : Kasuali - Chail - Shimla (Night stay Shimla)
Day-3 : Shimla (Night stay Shimla)
    Day-4 : Shimla-Manali (Night stay Manali)
Day-5 : Manali (visit to Marhi / Rohtang) (Night stay Manali)
    Day-6 : Manali-Gurgaon

    1. Does the itinerary look fine?
    2. Any suggestions about route.
    3. Is it OK to do it in a humble petrol Polo? I am planning to take cab for (Marhi/Rohtang) because of parking hassles, etc. or can it also be done in Polo?

    your programme is good..
    Polo Petrol >>>>>??????
you can do the trip in a Maruti 800 also
    so have fun
you will enjoy ur trip in Polo
and off course,,, in the Bilaspur area the road is bad, and it will slow you down one hell of a lot
but so what... the fun is at Shimla and Manali, and specially Rohtang...
make sure u ur camera batteries are charge and have enough memory in the cam
    happy landings

    Dear MG,

It seems very hectic schedule as you are going with family. I would like to suggest you below options.

Day 1 : Gurgaon to Chail (Night stay in Chail) as Kasauli is not cool place now, you will not feel comfortable
Day 2 : Chail to Shimla via kufri (Night Stay In Shimla)
Day 3 : Enjoy in Shimla (Night Stay)
Day 4-5 : Early morning Shimla To Manali (Stay In Manali for 2 nights) One night is not enough for this place
Day 6 : Return to GGN

This is suggestion only, you can plan as per your convenience.

Thanks for the suggestions and suggested itinerary. :)

I think only change you suggested is for Day-1 (Night stay in Chail) instead of Kasuali.

As mentioned earlier, I have already planned for 2 nights stay in Manali.

    Day-1 : Gurgaon-Timbertrail-Kasauli-Chail (Night stay Chail)
Day-2 : Chail - Shimla (Night stay Shimla)
Day-3 : Shimla (Night stay Shimla)
    Day-4 : Shimla-Manali (Night stay Manali)
Day-5 : Manali (visit to Marhi / Rohtang) (Night stay Manali)
    Day-6 : Manali-Gurgaon

Planning a trip by June 28th. Still confused that should take this via Nangal route as you suggesting or the one via Ghaghas or the main highway. Additional 60-70 km means 1-2 hrs

I would second the route which Terminator suggested. We did this route couple of days ago. Absolutely fantastic route through interior Himachal. Completely bypasses the mess of swarghat bilaspur.

    Terminator and Nitish Kumar

    thanks for that input.
i have been 4 times on that Bilaspur stretch, and its maddening
is Ropar renamed as Rupnagar ???
though on the map is looks a far longer route,
but i guess time wise it would be an advantage, apart from being less harassing and less killing on tyres and the vehicle itself.
    happy landings
