Finally back from the trip and travelouge is here

A trip from Delhi to Manali | Nitish Kumar's Blog

Took both the routes. Went via Una-Bhota and came back via main Bilaspur route.

Must say, both the routes have their own set of advantages. Roads via Bilaspur are nothing like anything to complain about but due to steep slopes, Truck queues might be maddening as those can't cruise over 1-2 gears while hilly roads won't allow you to overtake that easily always. If any part of road is bad then its around 8-10 kms before Kiratpur but that too is manageable.

Una-Bhota route on other hand is dream ride except the Jahu part. Trust me, you won't see such roads in any hills of India as much I have seen them. Dream sequence kind of though much longer.

    Hi,

Any update of road conditions between Pinjore and Swarghat ?

Is it still terrible and should be avoided (specially at odd hours) or Can I prefer this route over Ropar-Bilaspur route ?

Actually I have not been on that road in the last 3 years. However, going by the condition of that road beyond Baddi, its safe to say that the road would still be bad, if not terrible.

Ropar to Kiratpur is a 4 lane excellent highway which covers the 32 odd kilometers in less than 30 mins. From Kiratpur to Bilaspur, you'd have to confirm the road condition because from what I heard last, the road has improved a lot now. So it is better if you take the Kiratpur route.

I did Kiratpur to Bilaspur route a month ago and it was road in the pot holes till Swarghat and at some stretches till Bilapsur, but was manageable.

Guys the road is pretty manageable. Its just some bad patches enroute but can be easily avoided. After coming back to spiti, i realized the manali-delhi roads are perfect ;)

Stuck in jam since last two hours before Mandi. It was raining all night and due to overflow bridges have problems.

    Moving now.

Somehow reached Mandi. The road to Manali is blocked. Might take couple of hours to clear.
