North Sikkim Permits for private self drive car

After completing trip to Ladakh, self drive on my own car to North Sikkim is on my wish list.

I have read that only Sikkim registered vehicles get permit for north Sikkim. There is no such rule is mentioned on Sikkim Gov. official website.

State Portal, Government of Sikkim, India - Rules and Permit

However Bikes get permit easily. One of the TBHP member obtained permit for his own car (Duster).

Dusted: Zero Point, North Sikkim, 15748 FT - Team-BHP

So I would like to know, has anybody tried recently to get permit for North Sikkim?

As long as it is your own vehicle, it should fine. I guess the rule you're talking about is for taxis from outside Sikkim, "Vehicles not registered in Sikkim are not allowed to take tourists on local sight seeing or distance travel across the state."

There is no such thing. Permits for North Sikkim are easily manageable. We have travelled to North Sikkim in our own vehicle, Tempo Traveller. Restrictions are only for Army Controlled areas like Nathula Pass.

I got it easily. In fact Mangam DA officers were very much cooperative. They not only gave forms but also helped us filling them.

I was posted in Lachung few years back and we used to let civilian traffic pass. We let all personal vehicles go through irrespective of any state provided that they had necessary permit from Gangtok. The police check points at Mangan and Chungthang will not let you through if you don’t have one. If you still manage to pass them without a permit then you will hit army checkpoints which will not let you through. Hence, there’s no restrictions on other state vehicles to travel in North Sikkim.
