New Railways Inquiry No. 138

Railways To Introduce A New Paid Inquiry No. 138
Indian Railways is planning a new railway enquiry number 138, with a host of value added passenger related services.

The 138 service, likely to be announced in the Rail Budget on February 26, will lessen the pressure from the existing 139 passenger enquiry number which clocks close to eight lakhs calls per day.

Unfortunately 138 would be paid unlike free 139 number.

The new service will allow travellers to book their hotels, tourist taxis and tours. The registration for the 138 service will be allowed either online or through mobile phones.

While people in Delhi are already using the 139 number for these services, the service will be shifted to 138 countrywide. The 138 service will be available through dialling the number or via SMS.

IRCTC, a Railway PSU, which handles the passenger enquiry numbers is also considering attractive new tourism packages which includes a travel package for school children covered under the Sarva Sikshya Abhiyan.

The service is currently being offered in Tamil Nadu. It will be extended to other states too.

The toppers in class examinations are offered the package to explore their state and outside.

Too attract more Buddhist pilgrims and travellers, IRCTC has also decided to slash ticket rates by more than half in 'Buddhist circuit special train' commencing journey on February 26, March 9 and 20.

Besides, it is looking to launch the much-anticipated premium maharaja tourist train service soon
