Guess: This seems to be a slot to provide for USB?
The usb port and aux in is provided below HU.
The box I mentioned is 1.5 inch wide so this seems to be maintenance specific.

I think that glossy thing is IR receiver for remote of music system. I have not tried the remote till date though.
Have you received or seen any remote for your car's HU?
My Tiago also has this glossy cover, but it doesnot comes with any remote for HU.
Although one of the salesperson during finalising the car said that we can buy a remote from internet. No one else from Tata Concorde Delhi has confirmed the same.

If it is for a remote, I'd like to buy it. That's why eager to know the reality. :)

Yes. Zest has a remote. A good one. Harman branded.
Ex owner was kind enough to keep that safely in the leather booklet.
But I dont think he ever used it. I never used it either. Never needed to, since everything is mostly driven by phone or steering controls.

Also, My kid is likely to break it when he gets hold of it.

The zest crossed 39,000 km mark 2 days back. Total 2500 km of happy driving since I bought it.

Can you please share its photograph along with product number/model or any such detail so that I can also search for Tiago's remote.
Although there is no need of it, but sometimes the rear seated passengers also want to change tracks, etc. So, it might come handy.

Edit:
Got a hold of soft copy of ConnectNext Infotainment Manual.
"IR Remote Control is optional. Check with your Vehicle dealer to confirm the list of features available in your vehicle."

Here is a pic of the unit:

Highway trips generally rewards 22+ KMPL.

Other pic shows 21kmpl for last 3 months of mixed use.

This engine would give you great FE when driving slowly in 3rd or 4th gear, compared to driving agressively in 5th gear.
Turbo does eat a lot of fuel.

Jeet,
Can you be specific to this comment in terms of engine rpm for your below statement:

Yes Sir,
She gives best FE on lowest RPM I think. when I drive withing noida in off hours, generally remaining below 2000 rpm, she shows 19-22 kmpl, despite have lot of gear changes and few stops.
Compare this to a fast drive on NH58 for example, when people trying hard to overtake each other, FE will drop to 16-18kmpl. I think this is more because of turbo pumping a lot of fuel.

For best FE, you will need to cruise around 70-90kmph(1700-2000 rpm types) and she can deliver as high as 24-25KMPL.

Another example: wifie had taken zest to Yamuna expressway to agra trip which has very less city drive. Since speed was mostly 100-110, the reported FE of 500km trip came mere 18.5kmpl. Thanks to turbo and lot of wind resistance, high speeds do not return good FE, specially on small displacement engines.

Sweet spot to get good mileage:
  1. For 75PS or 90 PS Fiat engine [1248 CC] 2000-2200 rpm, anything higher will result in FE drop
  2. For 68 or 85 PS K9K Renault engine 2000-2200 rpm, anything higher will result in FE drop
  3. For 110 PS K9K Renault engine 2000-2200 rpm [6th gear - speed is 110-120 kmph], anything higher will result in FE drop.

It is indeed true that Indians suffer from a "kitna deti hai" syndrome!
Try to enjoy the car without worry about the FE.
