Did 850 km trip to Native. Covered the first 510 km in 9 hours - took a break for 3 hours and then the next 320 km in 5 hours.
K9K Engine rocks! Consistently maintained 80-105 kmph and got a mileage of 19 kmpl.

For about 3.5 hours I experienced Fog from Annigeri to Ankola [night driving]. I found out how useful the fog lights are!
During fog, if we put the headlamps to Hi-beam focus; the visibility drops drastically as the fogs make lights to reflect and we do not get clear vision. I found better visibility with low beam and was able to maintain speeds between 70-90 kmph.
Post Hubli, there was a Red color Vento Diesel of Bangalore registration going ahead; I subsequently overtook. In the FOG, he was using High beam and was struggling to pick speed or drive.

Can someone shed light on just WHY a Terrano is better than a Duster other than the looks? And I think bad after sales service is also mentioned. But my query is whether there is much difference in the parts and therefore performance?

Naturebuff,
Duster had some issues like AC water leaking inside the cabin and doors rattling. So the Terrano is 120 kg heavier than Duster. In Mechanical default from XL model and up you get ABS.
I am told that changes in Duster have also been made.
if you look at the other mechanical parts are same as Duster.

Servicing perspective; Nissan has to still reach the level of Maruti or Hyundai. In Hyderabad, Nissan is tad better than the Renault workshop. Hyderabad now has got a second Renault dealer / workshop; so things may be better now.
I am not sure whether the second dealer is just a name change.

Overall be it Duster or Terrano; is priced on the higher side. For the comfort and ruggedness while driving;I opine it is worth paying the price.
[We have Excise duty and VAT in India, so cars tend to be costlier].

We all crib of Duster pricing the CAR on higher side.
In NEPAL Petrol Toyota Liva costs Indian Rupees fifteen lacs. What do you say?

OFF the TOPIC:
Last Saturday I drove TATA ZEST Petrol. The pick up is not as good in CITY mode [ECO mode is still verse]. To top with I do not think Petrol would return Fuel Efficiency in city driving conditions above 11 kmpl.

There is one main flaw in ZEST; for the rear seat passengers, the rear windshield comes directly over the head. In absence of Sun film; it makes the journey during summer lot more tiring. Compromised for increased legroom and compact sub 4 m Car.

Thank you Deepam!

I have been looking at either of these two (Duster or Terrano) for an upgrade from the indigo I presently own. Although I am very happy with the performance of the Indigo, it is still a sedan and cannot (should not!) be pushed into doing circuits like the Spiti Valley through Batal or some others due to ground clearance issues... Is there some other options too? My budget doesnt permit me to go beyond the 10-12 limit!

Just wondering, how can be 120 KG difference in the 2. Looks doingh weigh that much.

I agree with you. Though Indigo is a good car - yes you cannot push it beyond certain point. I am not sure for how long you are owning your Indigo. I say go with your heart and buy Duster or Terrano. Can think of Duster RxE - Diesel - there were some offers - check with your nearest Renault Dealer.

Yes - may not be the looks - components like DOOR or even fenders / bonnets. The difference is 120 kg and so slight drop in mileage too.

one of the common problem with Terrano is the Wiper life span is quite short. I changed in August and 1 of the wiper [driver side] is slowly showing it ages.

Completed the 25k Service late last month - primarily engine oil change and cleaning of brake pads and brake discs.
Though not in schedule - in one of the fine prints it is mentioned to change the engine oil if the running is below 30 kmph for every 5000 km. Mine is mixed so - i do it every 5000 km.

Last week; I did Hyderabad-Bijapur-Kolhapur trip and back. The road condition in Maharastra is too bad I had never imagined it to be so bad. Kaagawad-Miraj-Sangli-Jayasinghpur-Kolhapur.
The route I took from Hyderabad to Bijapur:
Hyderabad - APPA junction - Chevella - Pargi - Kodangal - Sedam - Malkhed - Gulbarga - Jevargi - Sindhagi -Bijapur - covered 380 km in 7 hours including break for 50 min at Gulbarga.

The route from Bijapur to Kolhapur:
Bijapur - Thikota - Athani - Kaagawad [right turn to Miraj; left to Chikodi] - Miraj - Sangli - Jayasinghpur - Kolhapur [Onward in 3.5 hours and return in 4 hours; due to heavy traffic in Kolhapur to Kaagawad section]. Distance 179 km.
This section Bijapur to Kaagawad is quite deserted at all times. Kaagwad to Miraj/Sangli - Sugar belt area and no good places to stop.
