Data works everywhere with BSNL, it even worked at places like Chumathang and Durbuk. Speed is usually slightly faster than what you will get at Leh :D, but still 2g.

Does they have 3G connectivity yet in Leh? If yes, which operator has it? Which postpaid networks are currently working in Leh, Nubra,..etc. Will vodafone postpaid from other state work there? How about reliance netconnect?

No 3g connectivity as of now.

Vodafone postpaid works in Leh and a handful of places, but it is a fairly choppy network (it doesn’t do roaming on Airtel, some other network). Data is also not free; you have to pay 12 paisa per 10kb.

No idea about Reliance.

Thanks admin. Then BSNL postpaid is the best choice to go for, right? It has towers all around Leh and other places and 2G Data also works. Is it right?

Yes, BSNL is the best bet. 2G data works throughout Ladakh (where ever there is network). Though last year 2g network was a bit patchy, hopefully by this season, issue would be resolved.

YS, 2G is unreliable now as well in many places where you get signals. Like in Hanle and Chumathang, vioce is awesome but data is none, whatsapp stil works sometime.

I have MTNL and Vodafone postpaid connections, both worked in Leh. Though the network on which Vodafone was roaming, was pretty choppy and 2g speed was worse than that of BSNL and on top of that, it wouldn’t be deducted from plan’s bandwidth, so apart from couple of occasions, I didn’t really use it.

Any chance to get an MTNL postpaid sim with one month validity? I believe MTNL does not activate a postpaid number for such a short period.

Nope, postpaid connections aren't issued for short duration. You can always cancel it later or go for Jevansathi Plan, which requires you to spend around Rs. 100 or 200 in 6 months with zero rental.

For MTNL mumbai users, The data pack in BSNL is charged separately (KB wise). So if you activate 2g/3g, and see heavy bill, dont be surprised. Use judiciously.
