Hi All,

Planning for Zanskar from New Delhi in the month of August.

Start Date : 19 Aug evening
Can anyone please suggest me about condition of roads, stay options in Zanskar .
Fuel pumps from Hanle- Umling La and from Hanle back towards Manali (before Tandi)

We will be a group of three cars (all would be having family members). I will be travelling with two kids (10 and 3.5 years old)
Cars : Ecosport, Urban Cruiser and Duster

Day 1 Pathankot / Udhampur
Day 2 Sonmarg
Day 3 Kargil or somewhere beyond Kargil
Day 4 - Padum
Day 5 - Padum
Day 6 - Leh
Day 7 - Leh
Day 8 - Hanle
Day 9- Umlingla (stay at Hanle)
Day 11 - Jispa
Day 12 - Manali
Day 13 - Delhi

I think there are no fuel pumps around Hanle.
However you get adulterated fuel at some village.

Nubra Valley has many petrol pumps now but fuel shortage is there.
Similar situation may be at many points at Ladakh these days.
However I have hope that situation may improve in August with low volume of tourists going to Ladakh than summer months.

Hi Suneesh,

On Day 3 try staying at panikhar , you won't be able to do Rangdum from sonmarg.
On day 4 you can reach Padum from panikhar. Kindly don't attempt Padum to Lamayuru as the gradient is steep and the hairpin bends have deep trenches. So you return to leh via kargil , doable in a one day but you will have to start early from padum.

The itinerary seems to be tight, you need some more days or need to skip Zanskar.

1. Purtikchey check post doesn't allow vehicles to Padum post 10:00 AM. So you have to cross this Police check-post before 10:00 AM if it still there.
2. Padum - Jangla - Lingshed - Wanla is doable. Pass near Ligshed has very steep hair bends. We were in 4x4 vehicle but never had to engage it. Views there are worth more than effort.
3. Kaylong has Indian Oil Fuel Pump.

Add a day for Suru Valley (Shankoo/Purtikchey/Pannikhar). Wonderfull place.

zestbiker-if there is a SPIRIT,I ride it
day 2 -you can easily reach Kargil .
Spare time for the glaciers and views and peaks on the Sankoo- Rangdum-Padum road and don't rush it.
Since the focus is zanskar, make time for stay/stopover at Rangdum- the views of the wetlands in and around Rangdum and from Rangdum Gompa are therapeutic .
Rest all is ok.

Yes

In Black, Diesel is available at Small villages in Ladakh.
It is adulterated too.
Why are you so much worried about Petrol / diesel ?
Tank up to full and have a good can for your requirement.
2 Litres Cold Drink Bottles with proper capping can be good container.
