Pot/ matla undhiyu in ahmedabad

Guys, this is from a non gujarati guy who lived in Gujarat most of his life.
This is a traditional winter fare, cooked outdoors over fire. All different vegetables are put in an earthern pot and slowly baked over a fire. The veges are then taken out, shelled/peeled and mashed by hand, eaten with different sauces, and eaten with a light sprinkling of oil, lime, Sev ( bhujia) etc. Quite an experience actually.
Matla undhiya should not be confused with regular undhiya, which a mixed vegetable, with I guess for lack of better words, pakodas, also a winter fare, since all the required veges are avaialble only in winter.
When I come to India in winter, and since my inlaws are in Gujarat, I always try to have either one of the above. The regular undhiya is a favorite dish of mine.
Hope I was able to explain somewhat....:)

Ashwinb:
Try Rajwada and the other village setting type of restaurants that are very popular in Ahemdabad, I do not remember the names, but I am sure you know what I am talking about.
What on earth is matla undhiyu?
The results Google throws up seem to be nothing to write home about!

I believe so. You may want to inquire.

Well I stayed in ahmedabad for 6 years but haven't ever tasted... I am not sure if you can get it in any of the hotels... If you have a weathly patel friend.. enquire him and you might get the answer :)

Many of my relatives also haven't really had this in like years..most of them prepare it at home(which btw is really delicious) or buy from the local sweet stores(which is also good but not matla, just the regular one).

I just hate to buy Undhiyu. It laden with worst quality vegetables and cooking oil, not to forget the masala :( that undhiyu can be easily made at home.
