Promenading in the Mountains and Glens of Himachal – Sach Pass, Kugti, Barot

Day 0 – October 2,2019
We always book the right side seats on a Delhi bound flight from Kolkata, in the hope of seeing some Himalayan peaks. But this time, for whatever reason, we could not see the mountains.
We spent a few hours at the first floor a/c waiting lounge of New Delhi railway station, before boarding the Jammu Rajdhani express.
Day 1 – October 3,2019
We got down at Pathankot Cantonment railway station a little after 3-30am. Our car was booked from Ambala, and it came shortly thereafter. The real journey started at 4am, and the first tea break was taken at a newly opened and nicely built restaurant on the Dalhousie road – Sharma Punjabi Dhaba at Dhar (owner Mr.Rohit Sharma 08194898648). As daylight emerged, the vistas opened before us for which we had been waiting for years.
We took a photo-break when the Ravi river appeared for the first time.

Satish, even in September end the Satrundi check post was at the exit of Bairagarh only. May be during the early season and at the closing of the season they shift to Bairagarh.

Day 1 continued : Chamera Dam
We took tea and fuel break before Banikhet, and then started towards Chamera dam.
After crossing the dam, we stopped at the boating point to have a quick breakfast.
The vistas were beautiful as we proceeded further.
We reached the Koti bridge where the right side road has gone to Tissa and Dalhousie.
The left road has gone towards Sundla and then presumably to Pir ki Gali.
Animal tracks on the right? We did not see any village on that side.
Family affair

First view of the snow
We reached Bairagarh at around 12-15 pm and chose to stay at Mannat Home stay.
As we reached there early, the rest of the time was spent taking photographs.
Tissa road on the other side of the gorge - we came from right side on that road.
Tissa towards far right
Charas / Hashish / Cannabis plant
The clouds cleared somewhat towards the evening.
Stocking fodder for the ensuing winter?
Returning from school
We met a family taking late lunch in the Chamunda restaurant in the afternoon. They came from Delhi to Dalhousie for vacationing and decided to visit Sach pass. They were travelling by a Dezire, went upto the pass and came back. They reported that the road was bad, but did not find any snow except at the pass top. They were inquiring about our plan and wondered what would be there to see in Pangi valley. We only hoped to have the same good luck of theirs next day.
We saw clouds all day and it rained heavily in the evening. The evening rains clear the sky next morning for good view of the peaks. But this time we’d have to cross the Sach pass. So we went to bed with trepidation.
