Dear all,
This would be my first trip to leh and i would begin by early june.
I would like to hire a bike at delhi.
There are two basic requirements...
1. I am on a shoe string budget and cannot give huge deposits
2. I need someone with a low per day rent.

Also wht bikes would you recommend....

Kindly help... !!

hey , any one heard of Jitendra in New Delhi , Karol Baug , the guy who rents bikes. He was the mechanic in Raid and strom events. Hes offering REs and CBZs. CBZs are old ones.
Let me know , if any one had ever rented bikes from him. A quick reply will be appreciated. Thks.

Hello guys,

I'm Rakesh from Chennai, a new member in this forum. The whole website is just too good! Keep up the good work.

I'm planning to do a Leh-Ladakh trip this August. I was told by a friend that Hero Impulse is performing amazingly well in Leh. So, I am planning to rent an Impulse from Delhi/Chandigarh and do the trip. From my research online, I found that only Stoneheads.com and India Bike Tour have an Impulse for rent. They charge quite an exorbitant price though (in excess of INR 950).

So, I would like to know if there is any other rental place which charges lesser. I understand that these prices are very new and that could be a reason for their higher rent. But, 950 seems too much! And, is there anyone who has done a Leh-Ladakh on an Impulse? I guess the Zanskar valley roads can easily be managed on the Hero.

Thanks in advance,
Rakesh

Hello all, and hello to Yogesh in particular. What a fantastic site and resource!

I'm in the early stages of planning for a Dehli - Ladekh - Leh trip and I have a couple of questions:

1. I really don't want to ride an Enfield. Ideally, I'd like to rent a modern off-road bike like a Yamaha XT660Z, an Africa Twin, BMW or KTM. Is there anyone in Dehli or nearby renting these types of bike?

2. I'm thinking of spring 2013 for the trip. Is this too early? Should I wait until summer?

Looking forward to any advice.

Many thanks.

Keith.

Keith, welcome to BCMTouring.

Those sorts of motorcycles would not be available for rental in India (mainly because we have 110% import duty on bikes) and the only KTM officially available at the moment is the 200 Duke. Best option for you would be Hero Honda Karizma, Bajaj Pulsar 200NS, Bajaj Pulsar 220 and to some extent, 200 Duke. Though I am not really sure if you would be able to find 200 Duke and the 200NS available for rental, though you can probably buy a second hand one (you won’t be able to transfer the bike in your name) and then sell it after your trip is over.

Roads will not be open till about early June (Mid-May in case of Srinagar route). You can however fly to Leh and rent bikes there and explore, if you wish to go early.

Thanks Yogesh for the quick reply. I thought as much regarding the roads being unsuitable in spring. Presumably it's worth exploring the Leh vicinity? Would you have a recommended 10 day your route?

Thanks again for the reply.
