Renting Motorcycles in India

Was thinking of renting 2 bikes for a weekend in Mumbai. But there aren't too many options here. Except one Enfield Riders who charge Rs. 2000 + Taxes for a 500cc bike. Other issue is, they have normal (Black on white) licence plates. I don't know how is it possible for them without a permit.

I am also thinking of planning a ride from either Mumbai or Pune... in my case I'm looking to travel down the coast road to Goa and back. I travel to Pune on business annually, and am in the process of researching my international license, insurance, etc... interested in any advice on the above as well as where to rent in either of these cities, or if it's better to buy used and resell. I am used to riding a larger bike - Kawasaki GTR1400... and I'd like to stick with something more in the adventure or sport touring classes or similar - Ninja 600, 300, KTM, etc... I have business associates in Pune who ride and would be assisting and accompanying me. Thanks for any advice!

Hi Yogesh,

I am planning for a trip to Leh in April-May 2016.
I like to bring my own bike from Chennai, will it be possible to ship my bike up to Manali?
How is the climate by April/May? Please suggest best time to ride.
Do I have to reserve hotels in advance or can be done just by knocking?
My bike dose somewhere around 28-30 kmpl. How large my emergency fuel can should be?
What/Where are the permit I should get?
How much will it cost?
I have planned for 10 days trip? Can I go up to Kargil? If so where can I ship my bike back from?
Is pillion advisable?

Yes on a Roadline / Gati only.
But In May Manali -Leh Road is mostly closed.
It may open in late May according to the amount of snow on Rohtang pass.
Keep eye on

or
2016 Manali - Leh Road Status thread will be created.
Better plan for Srinagar - Leh and return after confirming news of road opening of Leh-Manali.

It is very cold and slushy at places.
Roads will not be in good conditions for first some weeks after opening.

Do I have to reserve hotels in advance or can be done just by knocking?

Just do it by knocking.

Fill at Tandi from Manali side. Then you can make it to Leh.
A 10 lit can is enough for emergency upto Leh.

What/Where are the permit I should get?

No permit if coming from Srinagar side for Indians.
For Manali Leh side you need permit from SDM office, Manali.

How much will it cost?

Not much.

You can go to Kargil with ease as this side is open mostly in early May.
Better plan from Srinagar- Leh.
Take bike on train till JAMMU (JAT) then ride to Srinagar and Kargil and then to Leh.

Is pillion advisable?

It is OK if Pillion is active and ready to run on rough / slushy / patches or water crossings mostly.
Pillion have to adjust with the bags etc that you are carrying.
Take less amount of stuff all that is necessary only.
Camera in a Camera bag.

Hie Guys!!
I am planning for a ride to Leh via Srinagar route and return via Manali route in June. I am thinking of carrying my own bike from Delhi to Jammu by train or bus and then will start the ride from there. The bike is Yamaha FZ-S 2013 model. Can someone help me with the below queries?
1. How to transport the bike from Delhi to Jammu? By bus or by train? If by bus, do anyone knows the contact detail of any transporter who can help me out with this?
2. Is it possible to get the luggage carrier affixed on FZ-S?
3. If yes, where can i get it affixed?

Hello Yogesh, et all,

I am new to this forum, hello to everyone.
Me along with my friends (8 of them in all) are planning to Spiti valley cricuit on last week of July on bike.
I need help from the you people (verterans from any angle) in this regard. I have put up some questions as below. Thsi help us in making a great trip.
We are planning to do this trip on Bike in 9 days - chandigarh (7 am) to chandigarh (7 pm) via Shimla, Narkhanda, sangla, tabo, kaza, batal, manali, shimla.
1. Can we do this on bike with 2 on a bike?
2. Will the season be sunny considering past history.
3. Will the bikes from delhi be allowed to be driven in HP.
4. We have not booked any hotels / home stays. We are planning to stay in the place where ever we feel "enough for the day". Do we get instant accomodtion and vegeterian food?
5. We have a couple of ladies with us. Will it be of any concern if we have not booked accomodation?
6. Most importantly., We could NOT find proper bike rentals in Shimla or Chandigarh. Either they are expensive or they are unreliable rentals. I found one person from this thread from Hitanshu and yogesh ro-quoting it, on page 2 of this thread. Owner / mechanic name is Jitendar. He is offering 900/- per day for 350cc, and transport to chandigarh at cost of 2000/- per bike.
is this person fine? have anyone of you tried him before? are the prices fine? Stne head bikes in chandigarh operate from 10 - 6 and charge 1200. With this timing, we will loose half a day.
7. Do you want us to drive from delhi? We thought this adds another 4-5 hrs of journey in the beginning itself and makes us tired even before we start our actual journey.

Thanks much in advance.

Hi prkudixit,
we 2 ppl went last year in 1 bike rented from Chandigarh. http://www.royalindiabikes.com/ Rajiv- 9910012597
Roads wont be good in many stretches and it is going to be a strenuous journey for the person in the pillion.
It was bit sunny last year.
Accommodation and food won't be an issue.
As you got only 9 days, plan lik this.
Chandigarh- Narkanda
Narkanda- Sangla
Sangla- chitkul-kalpa
Kalpa-Nako
Nako- Kaza
Kaza-Key- Kibber- langza- hikkim-Komic-Kaza
Kaza to chandertal
Chandertal to manali
Manali to chandigarh
ATB!!!!
