During my recent trip to Kashmir, I stayed for a couple of nights at RK Sarovar Portico in Srinagar.
RK Sarovar Portico is located away from the Dal Lake and on the foothills of Shankaracharya Temple. However, the way it is constructed, you won’t really get a view of anything except the city from your room or for that matter anywhere else in the hotel. And if you're unlucky like me, you will only get a view of the next building!
My room was located in the second building, on the third floor and at the time of my stay, the lift wasn’t working in the second building (it was working in the first building).
Additionally, there were heaters located on each floor, right where the stairs were and that made my head hurt. Because in the morning the outside temperature was 0 degree Celsius and when I stepped inside the building, the hot air hit me right in the head!
My room for the most part was fine. But it felt small. It also had a centralized heater, which would keep running even if you weren't in the room and there was no way to switch it off or turn it down! In fact, it was so hot; I had a tough time sleeping on the second night!
Apart from that, the room was comfortable.
The toilet on the other hand, didn't seem ergonomically right and felt cramped.
Food at the restaurant was mostly good, but more than that, the restaurant located on the top floor of the first building had a lovely view. It is worth spending an evening there, right when the sun is going down if you don’t intend to go out.
Overall, RK Sarovar Portico wasn’t really up to the mark, especially considering most website list it for over 6k a night. It felt like it wasn’t being maintained well and the heating, it was way too much for anyone!
