It depends on your time in hand and weather also.Hi all,
I'm currently travelling through India via motorcycle and will find myself in the Nanital region until the start of July. From there we will head to Manali.
Does anyone have recommendations on roads to avoid or look for on the route from Nanital to Manali for around early July when heat and rain could be worth considering? Google maps offers a few routes, but keen to hear some advice from some locals to get there as quickly, safely and comfortably as possible!
I will say plan according to weather and if you have time then you can go via the route I am recommending.
In the best traditions of the forum, let me start with a few sampler pictures. Picked up a picture for each of the 11 days I was on the road. A detailed travelog will follow. Day 1: Nainital to Rudraprayag - The picture is from the Gagas Valley - a little below Ranikhet. The hills are lush...
@dichkaun has done on Motor Cycle:
Nainital to Manali via Spiti.
He came back to Nainital via Mandi hill route & Chandigarh in plains.
If you have 2 days then take route via Chandigarh - Mandi - Manali.
If you have more days to enjoy,
then go via Spiti.
Check weather before you are leaving Nainital as Monsoon can spoil your timings by landslides etc.
However the route has a different charm if you go in light rains.
Check BBC Weather website.
Check animation (Clouds &Rain) of 5 days religiously.
