Hi,
I am planning (along with wife) for a road trip from Bangalore to Singapore enrouting Myanmar, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand during May for a duration of six weeks in Honda city. From Singapore I will ship my vehicle and fly back to India.
For this I have been exploring and collecting information and still have a lot of queries. It will be great if someone can share more information from their recent experience on this route.
1. I got to know Carnet will cost 1 lakh INR(this is security deposit only or is it fees apart from the deposit). Not sure if it is sufficient for all above countries
2. Somewhere I also read Thailand needs "Carnet de passage" costing 200% of vehicle value. Is this still valid even if I have a carnet ? If yes, will I need this for any other country as well ?
3. There is also several mention of being escorted with a local guide in a leading vehicle mandatory in Myanmar and Thailand, and may be Vietnam. And thus supporting their stay and food.
4. Experience and information about Vietnam/Laos/Cambodia as they are rarely visited countries comparatively on this route.
Any pointers will be very helpful !!
Thanks in advance

CARNET can be taken back, but who will run for that ?

CARNET is for each and every country, you are going to pass.
Each Country has own rules and problems to handle all the game.

Escort is must in Myanmar atleast.
May not need in other countries.
But you can ask this to the people who are going to handle your paper and finance issues.

4. Experience and information about Vietnam/Laos/Cambodia as they are rarely visited countries comparatively on this route.

Thailand, Vietnam and Laos can be handled easily with some greasing and agents.
Myanmar is tough nut to crack.
First try to solve this puzzle.
Rest will be easy.
