Prologue-The Great Monsoon Ride
A ride in monsoon exploring Maharashtra’s famous hill stations and Konkan Coast– the narrow strip between the Western Ghats and Arabian Sea have been on the agenda since the last monsoon and early this year had explored superlative beaches of Diveagar, Shrivardhan & Hariahreshwar. But the excitement to cover the complete stretch of SH-4 and explore other beaches like Ganpatipule, Malvan, Tarkarli and Vengurla have enchanted me a lot and were on the agenda for quite some time. Most of these beaches boasts of crystal clear waters, virgin white sands and lush green environs. Best way to explore this is via a road trip through state highways along the Konkan Coast line.

Initial Itinerary was to spend 6 days starting Aug 15th -Aug 20th on road exploring Maharashtra's famous Konkan Beaches and hill stations (Amboli and Satara) although this great monsoon ride was completed in 4 days (Aug 15th-Aug18th) covering Kaas (Satara), Ganpatipule, Jaigarh, Tarkarlia and a drive through Amboli followed by non stop drive back to Mumbai. Must say this 1425 km Great Monsoon Ride covering Kaas-Chiplun-Ganpatipule-Jaigarh-Ratnagiri-Tarkarli- Amboli-Nipani-Kohlapur-Pune was Simply Amazing !!!

Final Itinerary was as follows:

Day 1 Aug 15th Wednesday
-Mumbai – Satara- Kaas Plateau of Flowers - Kaas Lake ~300 km (Stay at Nivant Hill Resort, Satara)

Day 2 Aug 16th Thursday
-Satara –Umbraj –Chiplun (via Kumbharli Ghat) –Ganpatipule (via Rai Bhatgaon Bridge) ~225 km (Stay at Hotel Landmark, Ganpatipule)

Day 3 Aug 17th Friday
-Ganpatipule-Jaigarh-Ganpatipule-Ratnagiri-Rajapur-Tarkarli ~275 km (Stay at Hotel Blue View Resort, Tarkarli)

Day 4 Aug 18th Saturday
-Tarkarli-Kasal-Amboli-Nippani-Kohlapur-Pune-Mumbai ~600 km (Back in Mumbai)

Thanks Gita Madam, Kaas was literally a 'No Show' I guess flowers will bloom little late this time. Plan your visit to Kaas in the 3rd or 4th week of September to see Kaas in full bloom.

P.S Please tell me the name of the Flower in the Post...Clicked it en route Ganpatipule.

Well yes I had drove 'The Bat' from Ludhiana last year in April, But I a Mumbaikar for last 6 years. Had posted my T'Log on BCMT http://www.bcmtouring.com/forum/travelogues-west-india-f62/fun-tas-tic-road-trip-ludhiana-mumbai-30-hours-1900-km-t37562/

The Bat was then The Iron Lady:p but the Hero was the same;) 6 years in Mumbai? Now you are a true Vada Pao-kar, not a Chhole Bhature-wala:D:D

Your flower is a common Balsam, it ought to be in full bloom by now. I have some of them in my balcony too:cool:
The Kas plateau balsam carpets are a different variant, found at higher altitudes.

Really strange 'monsoons' this year:shock:
