HI All,

How are you. Long time no see. I just happen to speak to couple of my friends regarding a road trip a year back and all of them shied away citing family commitments and job commitments as reason. I never gave up hope and have been planning for my trip of a lifetime: Chennai - Leh - Chennai.

Couple of months back all of my friends met and were discussing about this and were convinced that if this does not happen in this lifetime, then there is no point in living. I have told them regarding the tenacious trip that it will be, rewarding and exhilarating. So we had a couple of huddle session in coffee shops and tea shops and had few discussion regarding various aspects:, starting from the bike preparation, route map. We unanimously agreed upon one fact that the cost of accommodation will be kept at bare minimum as we are not expecting a star holiday or a honeymoon. So couple of my friends are in talks with people regarding the stay. Here are few things that we actually agreed upon. I hope all of you will be able to give me better insights with all your experience and feedback.

Route:

Onward:

Chennai - Hyderabad - Nagpur - Bhopal - Agra - Delhi - Amritsar - Srinagar – Leh.

Return

Leh - Manali - Chandigard - Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Udaipur - Surat - Mumbai - Belgaum - Bangalore – Chennai.

Bike Routines:

1. Service the bike a week before the ride and drive it for a week to get used post service.

2. Service the bike after reaching Delhi from Agra (onward Journey)

3. Service the bike after reaching Delhi from Manali (return Journey)

4. Service the bike after reaching back Chennai.

Motorcycle Essentials

1. Toolkit

2. Spare Sparkplug

3. Clutch and Accelerator wire

4. Rear tyre tube and tyre irons and valve key for tube type tyres.

5. Foot/electric pump/tyre repair can

6. 500ml engine oil

7. Electrical tape, m-seal and steel wire

8. Saddle bags and one duffel bag.

9. Rain covers for the saddle bags

10. Messenger bag for rest day roaming

Other essential stuffs will be jotted down after further discussions. Please let me know if there are anything important things to add on to this.

HI All,

Return

Leh - Manali - Chandigard - Delhi - Agra - Jaipur - Udaipur - Surat - Mumbai - Belgaum - Bangalore – Chennai.

Motorcycle Essentials

1. Toolkit

2. Spare Sparkplug

3. Clutch and Accelerator wire

4. Rear tyre tube and tyre irons and valve key for tube type tyres.
While returning you can skip delhi and agra if you want to go to Jaipur. there is a route from Panipat which by-passed delhi. You can save a lots of traffic / time and energy there.
Secondly.
Why carry tyre and tube, just tube for front and rear is sufficient.
I would like to add a smaller main jet or a real free flow air filter to counter the thin air ahead of Srinagar.

Guys need some help. Time to change my battery. So my bike has the 12v 14AH Excide battery. Barely lasts 2 yrs. So i had seen this video on youtube where the guy suggested fitting the new 12v 8Ah dry cell on the older bullet.

Has any1 here tried this ? 12v 14ah for my self start where as 8ah for the new bullets. So does that mean i wont be able to use my self if i get the lower AH battery ?

From last one 8 months I am using 12V 8AH (i guess Activa) dry battery in my RE Classic 500. All the things (starter, light, duel horn etc..) are working perfectly fine.
from the specs Volt is more important and AH for running the devices.

Happy with the battery.

P.S. Amaron battery doesn't fit the tray as battery is wider and thinner than the OE battery.

Hope you guys are doing great ! Anyone going for the interceptor ?
Not interceptor, but recently I bought Apache 200 4V ABS. Touring almost stopped after my kid was born (now we usually take car for long distance) and needed something for city commute. Wife was completely against KTMs so bought Apache in mid range.

However, the recent reviews about interceptor a pretty good. And the build quality seems to have improved.

:D

I did test ride the Interceptor and the engine is very smooth. One major negative shared by many is its awkward pillion foot peg position due to the raised exhausts (the rider foot peg is also at an inconvenient position - which I felt can be lived with).
