Hi Friends,

I bought a EOS 500D camera more than 4 years back but have not explored so much. I am using basic kit lens 18-55 mm till now that I have used to click my daughter's pics most of the time and landscapes (70/30). I have ordered a Tokina f2.8 11mm - 16mm DS II for upcoming trip to Leh-Ladakh starting June 27 onwards and probably will get it by tomorrow.

My kit is
EOS 500D
Canon 18-55 mm IS
Tokina 11 - 16 mm f2.8 DS II wide angle (Will get by tomorrow)
CPL (Marumi) and UV(Hoya) filter
Benro Tripod
2 batteries
4*16 GB (Sandisk Extreme cards)
Lens cleaning kit

Please help me improving my photography skills :)

One of the pic I clicked last night is here. Your feedback is much awaited

Sorry, forgot to provide details

Exposure 20 sec
ISO 100
Focal length 37mm
Aperture 4.3

I know leaves are blurred on left side because of fast wind. What I did not like is text missing on flex boards (on street lights). Due to over exposure or OOF? Anything else that I am missing?

Regards
Sandy

Be a Good person but Don't try to Prove.
I don't know much about photography but as a common man I can say that photograph is excellent. Experts can only help to improve.

Sorry to be intruding, but you clicked right in front of the board that says 'Photography Prohibited'...:cop:
Yea dude, I noticed only after transferring it to my system. Thanks for correcting, my apologies.

Thanks Shekhar for appreciation!

Where is the remote?
Hi Sandy,

what I like :

1. use of slow shutter and use of tripod
2. The rather low POV

I wish you included a prominent subject to anchor my eyes ( a stationary bike/car , a friend who would stand still at some strategic part of the frame?) . Any photograph , however beautiful the surrounding is , calls for a strong subject. Do I see a tilt or the contour of the road was like that? I would have liked to tweak the WB a bit as it is looking too yellowish for me ( personal choice ).

Now let me rant about something else. A placard "prohibiting photography". In many countries like as in India you will see such prohibitions galore as if we photographers are responsible for all the security breaches of the world. I wonder if the terrorists etc depend on some cellphone shooters to take photos in these days of google map and satellite imaging. This often goes to ridiculous proportion , in my city Kolkata , it's mascot the "Howrah bridge" is perhaps the most photographed icon of the city but still it wears one of those "Photography prohibited" placards, go figure.

Anyway hopefully things are changing and it has started with the big uncle Sam. They have brought legislations to restore our right to photograph the world around us. They have also named the law aptly as "Ansel Adams Act". A small start but I hope that it will start a trend. I quote from the act :
people “have been instructed to prohibit photography from public spaces, and threatened photographers with arrest or seizure of photographic equipment,”

Happy shooting :)

Sandeep,
Flex boards are generally coated with reflective paints so that they glow when light falls on them. So its difficult to capture the text as these boards tend to over expose as compared to entire frame.
I think this is a fairly acceptable.
