...most importantly, the on-road price of safari 2.2 is 12,92,00/- in mumbai and definetely not 9 lakhs. the scorpio 2.2 costs 11,68,000/-. i own both, so i am giving you the exact figures.
Mr Raj is out here to market scorpio there are multiple threads running in parallel, someone please stop this
Akshay, I would not want to 'stop' this. You are equally free to post your views. Just keep them within the realms of credibility.
Raj says he owns BOTH! Can you think of many more who would be in a position to give us feedback like he can? Even allowing for subjectivity?

Perhaps you want to call for some 'proof' that he owns both?
And, believe me, IF he does, I , for one, would want to gain from his experiences/opinions!

And these 'multiple threads' are best left to the moderators to allow or merge.
:)

BTW, there is an old saying: 'You have not converted a man because you have silenced him'!!!!

May I ask what it is that 'scares' you?

yes buddy, mine is the top end 2.2 VX, but 4x2 and not 4x4... since we are debating on features here, and it is the top end VX variant that offers the features you mentioned, like leather seats, DVD screens, reverse camera. etc. the safari EX has no such features.

The top end Safari VX absolutely trumps the Scorpio VLX in usable features and more. The EX is the right match for the VLX.
By the way Safari VX 2.2 is Rs. 1069971 ex-showroom in Mumbai, I wonder how can the on-road price be 12,92,000??? Almost 2.3 lakhs more!!!!!

no buddy, i bought the car 6 months back, i am aware of the pricing.
the safari EX 4x2 costs 10,85,000/- on-road, mumbai and the VX is 12,92,000...
what is your source of the car's pricing? best is, you call up a dealer and ask the on-road price, you will get a clear idea.

i am sorry, but what are the safari's "usable" features in VX variant? the EX is no match for the scorpio's features. the EX offers you just power windows, remote locking and fog lamps. are these the features you are comparing to the scorpio?

Bhaiyon Mazaa aa raha hai..

A humble request.. instead to contradicting each other in every next post, why dont you start like "I would like to express" or "I have experienced".. Raj, yes this is the forum to express all your views, but Instead of starting sentences with SORRY & NO, one can express himself in better ways, which do no seem like a fight but look as discussion.. Thats my opinion, & if you try to follow it, this thread would look like a very good discussion..

Anyways, still enjoying it.. atleast we are getting enriched :)

I have quoted the Ex-Showroom figures from TATA Safari's website and the price is for Mumbai.

1) Power Windows at the right place and this is important ergonomically.
2) Roof mounted rear A/C and it also has the vents b/w front seats.
3) Heated outside rearview mirrors.
4) Electrically Adjustable Rear View Mirrors.
5) Demister on the front windows as well.
6) Alpine head unit IMHO better than Kenwood anyday.
7) Classy Analogue clock with lit hands.
8 Door open indicator light (Red, built into the door pad)for the traffic coming from behind.
Thats besides a more powerful engine, more space, better steering, better ride and better looks!

Coming to Scorpio:
1) Tyre pressure sensor... Isnt accurate but gives you a rough idea, nice addition, no complaints.
2) Automatic Wiper and headlights: As I said, they started on their own during the course of my test drive in bright sunlight! They might work but do I need it... is it something I cant live without?
3) Cruise Control: on a manual gearbox car? Can mahindra tell me how does it work.... the dash has no indication whatsoever if its on and if it is, what speed is it set up at? Please dont confuse it with radar guided cruise control systems in a Merc or a BMW! :D
4) Stupid talk thingie... it was hilarious the first time I turned on the ignition in a Scorpio "Scorpio is a powerful vehicle, Please fasten your seat belts"... yeah its a Cayenne beater. I burst out in laughter right in front of the test drive guy. Sophisticated talking technology according to Mahindra but absolutely utterly useless.
5) Body graphics.... eh on a SUV! Argh!
6) Park assist... but then its not something you cannot fit aftermarket and doesnt require any major fabrication or modifications.
You may curse Safari quality and I agree its not good but so is Scorpio's. The dashboard on a Scorpio ends before it even starts. Besides have you looked at the glovebox cover... its incredibly flimsy. Next time have a look at Safari's glovebox... its coated with a damping material inside so that there's no rattle when something is kept inside.

Talking of price
Mahindra Scorpio VLX: Rs. 9.65 lakh Ex-Showroom Delhi.
Safari VTT 2.2 Dicor: 869107 Ex-Showroom Delhi

A difference of almost 1 lakh rupees.
I can go on but not in a mood to write long.

Hey you two, can we just agree to dis-agree?!
I find it strange to see your focus on what I consider as utter trivialities! Heated ORVMs!! And you can always contort this feature to represent an indispensable SAFETY feature!

An SUV/MUV is meant for touring, and in most touring situations there are bad roads and at times no roads. Repair shops are not there for the next many many miles.

The focus, for Tourers, is invariably on RELIABILITY, and NOT bells and whistles.
So, can we stop this rather meaningless debate on 'feature-laden' SUVs and just choose according to what individual needs are?

Needless to say, in the RELIABILITY department, Tata cannot hold a candle to M&M!

Incredible Bulk
Very enlightening discussion, the outcome of it is that now many BCM members are capable of advising people when buying a SUV.
The way you guys have discussed the specs and defended your point of view the companies should offer you a job in marketing.
