Ever heard of overdrive.... 5th gear in most cars is an overdrive which is there for relaxed cruising and not for top speed and hence the top speed in 4th gear.
yes, i am an automobile engineer and i have heard of overdrive. also, i completely agree to what you said. and thats what even i meant that top gear is for cruising.
so even if the 5th gear in safari is "derestricted", it wont go till 180 kmph. are you trying to say that the safari will challenge the honda CRV in top speed?
why should TATA restrict it to 2500 rpm without any reason?

I am surprised why you took your Safari to the same service center when they werent able to rectify the problem?
Why didnt you write to the customer serivce department of shoddy serivce? I am yet to come across a guy who has sent them a genuine concerns regarding servicing issues and it hasnt been addressed.
And I am most surprised by the fact that they changed clutch in your safari 3 times and still werent able to solve the problem? No company will just change the clutch just like that and that too 3 times!
I have 3 example in front of me and apart from initial issues they have been as reliable as any car in the market even with all the abuse they have been put through.
i took it to two different service centres, but still they were not able to rectify the problem. believe it or not, TATA's service is shoddy.
i am in no mood to waste my time and stationary in writing to the customer service department when i know that no action will be taken.
finally, you are right, "No company will just change the clutch just like that and that too 3 times!", but TATA did...!!!

well, this seems to be an interesting thread
but even i do agree to anup and raj.
with my experience, i have found that normally scorpios are far more reliable that safaris.

just saying that all 30k owners of scorpio are lazy or less honest is ridiculous!
i have been in forums where i have discussed about problems in both the safari and scorpio. but the threads about scorpio has been far less. and its not because the owners are dishonest, it is because the car rarely gives any major trouble.
I am not talking personally about you. You are in a better position to comment than anyone else here.

The notion that Safari is unreliable is based on the owner reports doing the rounds on various forums. But in those forums, there are hardly any reports on the scorpio - good or bad. So to state that the absence of ownership reports on the Scorpio indicates good reliability is blatantly wrong.

neither am i taking it personally deeps. ;)
i am not trying to prove that the scorpio is reliable because there are no reports about it on any forums. that is from my own experience.
yes, but when a car does not give you trouble, how can the owners report about it on a forum. again, i know that the scorpio is not 100% reliable, even a toyota isnt. but then how can we say that all scorpio owners are dishonest and they never admit it on forums. ok, some may be, but all??

i own a scorpio 2.6 turbo, not the crde. it has done 1,45,800 kms and still running fine. no major issues till now. the engine is still going strong and can kick dirt on many puny petrol cars. i can confidently say that the scorpio is reliable. and this is not reading any forums. recently i test drove the scorpio vlx and trust me guys, it was amazing! its a really involving and fun car to drive.

Thats why I said your comments are more credible than anyone else's.

Whats preventing them from posting the good side of the scorpio? They dont tend to do that either. Thats what I was implying in my "lazy" comment.

No, I didnt mean ALL owners were dishonest. This was just a cynical possibility of "what?" could be - i.e. not the reliability factor.

Post some of your roadtrips then. Surely that distance hasnt been covered in the city itself. Just out of curiousity...How old is it in terms of years and months?

can kick dirt on many puny petrol cars.
Wait till I upgrade to a HUmmer from my puny petrol car...

owner reports doing the rounds on various forums: because owners ARE having problems. There is no smoke without fire.

So to state that the absence of ownership reports on the Scorpio indicates good reliability is blatantly wrong: No one STATED that. That is something emerging from your own mind.
All that has been said is COMPARATIVE only.
Even I keep saying that the Bolero is more reliable, and the Gypsy is KING.

There are a lot of products I own which have given service the way they were expected to. I have never felt it necessary to post 'reviews' about them on any forum.
It is only when your expectations stand shattered/compromised that you make 'noise'! :)

And BTW, if Taxi operators take to a particular vehicle, I'm always curious to know WHY.
For them it is livelihood. I believe they are very canny about the 'Total Cost Of Ownership'.
If that aspect of ownership is also important to you, you must factor it in and choose accordingly.

I guess this issues has been resolved and is not even an issue..being reported here so vehemently.

While still waiting, this is what I just found while 'channel surfing'!

OMG, take a look at this: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/technical-stuff/39627-strange-humming-noise-my-safari.html#post829046

I don't want these HASSELS!! (Though I don't even know which 'truck' the man owns)! Safari? How old?

They NEED NEED NEED each other to help out with the unending "ISSUES"!! Minor squiggles no doubt! TASS will NOT be able to handle this, which is why they rely on each other to sort it all out!
THIS pain, (that is what it is for me), is not there if you buy an Innova or the Scorpio.
