Self Drive option from Delhi

Hi All

If I hire a self drive car in Delhi from say carzonrent and take the car to Himachal (places like Shimla, Kasauli, Narkhanda, Sarahan), will there be a problem doing site seeing in and around these places. As I understand all self drive cars are yellow board with Delhi numbers.

Does the same rule apply to Himachal as in Leh (non J&K taxi cannot do site seeing in and around)??

If anyone has done the same, please share your experience with Carzonrent.

No problem in taking yellow number plate self driven car to HP as far as i know.
However you may have to deposit toll tax as a commercial vehicle.

I have taken carzonrent twice, once to lansdowne and next to Mukhteswar, recently.
I did not face any issue related to documentation.
However the tax collector at UK boarder surprisingly asked me "Ye taxi aapki apni hai", I said it is a rental.

You can take till Sarahan, I am sure there will be no issue from cops etc.

But Carzonrent will not allow their car to be taken further. Any area remote is strict no no. Their policy.

BTW you said you paid daily tax for UK ... I guess it would be the same way for HP, any idea how much would that be / day (approx), also where do we need to pay it .... while entering HP ??

For UK, the tax was 140 per day+ 50 Rs one time entry fee = total 330 for 2 days.

If you are going from delhi to shimla, I think u ll need to pay Haryana + Punjab (Pinjor), and HP. It is easy to located RTO tax booth, on side of road on the boarder. In your case it could be in Pinjore I think. Ask any police wala or any taxi/truck driver.

I took carzonrent car from noida, hence it was lifetime UP tax paid. U will hire from Delhi/Gurgaon. U can call the location and ask if it is HR tax paid. All their cars are DL1N registered, hence no tax for delhi.


Edit: Rate list of each state is available online. I think most state hover around Rs 100 per day.
