Anup, these bridges are built where modern machinery cannot reach! Or, it would be prohibitively expensive to take.
I'm sure these bridges are still being grown, in a hundred places where none of us will reach for many years to come yet! It is a way of life with the Khasis.
...and yes, that rooster (is it the same one?) is a subtle way of showing our starting point and the return!
