Sia La Guest house

We stayed at Sia La guest house at Leh on 23rd to 26th June 2008 and found the guest house one of the best maintained and cleanest in the area. It is located on the fort road from the main market. The guest house is run by a local tibetan family, who were very good hosts. The rate was Rs 700/- per room per night, with Rs 100/- for extra bed (provided only if there is a child accompanying). The rooms were clean & wall to wall carpetted with lot of woodwork, the bathrooms (very clean) have hot water available from early in the morning to late in night (work on solar power so its difficult to get hot water from say 11:00 PM to 5:30 AM in morning).

The food at the guest house was yummy & the best I ate in these 11 days of trip, available only if told in advance.

The only problem is of parking. Bikes can come upto guest house, but 4 wheelers cannot. even for bikes, if its a large group, then it can be problematic.

A small farm is being maintained within the premises & the lawns provide a very comfortable seating, enjoying the views of mighty Himalayas in front. Add to it the variety of flowers in the fields, which were photographers paradise. Some of the assortments, not all, are posted here.

The owner also helped us in getting the permits in advance. we emailed the asked details to him & the permits were ready when we reached Leh.

@YS : charges for permits were 150/- per head

@Prasham : This is an A class guest house. the guest houses are rated as A, B, & C class in Leh & the rates are standard as declared by the administration for different classes of guest houses, unlike hotels who have their own tarrif...yes few guest house may negotiate & reduce for earnings...

Nice, obviously worth 700.
"one of the best maintained and cleanest in the area" and look at the bedding. And hot water without thudding generator and power failures. ...Solar's the way to go; the owner's smart.

Add to it, rates are not controlled by owner but the Leh Administration !! This is classified as A class guest house !!
