Till how much time they will be able to open it, it is not clear.
In Winters also they will allow common man to be there ?
Many people go there for Chadar Trek.
After or before that or if something stops them to do Chadar Trek will they be able to plan for Siachen too ?

Adventure enthusiasts can now boast of visiting the highest battlefield in the world. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday, 21 October, announced that the Siachen area will be opened for tourism purposes.
“Ladakh has tremendous potential in Tourism. Better connectivity in Ladakh would certainly bring tourists in large numbers. The Siachen area is now open for tourists and Tourism. From Siachen Base Camp to Kumar Post, the entire area has been opened for Tourism purposes,” Singh tweeted.

Speaking of the border issues with China, Singh said both nations have handled them responsibly and with maturity. China and India have clashed on multiple occasions in the Eastern Ladakh sector.

Until recently, the Indian Army did not allow civilians to access the premises near Siachen Glacier other than the locals who live nearby and serve as porters for the forces. Only select few journalists and enthusiasts have been allowed so far.

India Today, quoting Army sources, had reported in September that the plan was being contemplated upon to allow people to see the difficulties and daily challenges faced by personnel of the Indian Army who man the area in extremely harsh weather conditions.
The sources also said Army chief General Bipin Rawat has said people have developed a keen interest in the Army life and its ways.
The Army is also considering opening up more of its operational positions in the high altitude terrain in Ladakh for common people to see, India Today had reported.
The Siachen Glacier, the highest battlefield in the world, is a part of Ladakh, which is now a Union Territory, after the Narendra Modi government bifurcated Jammu and Kashmir in August this year.

How high is this glacier.
Many casualties of trained Army men happen here frequently and mostly it is AMS and rarely Avalanche.
visitors will be allowed till Kumar post only which is situated at an altitude of around 15000 ft. SBC is situated at 12000 ft. Highest post at Siachen glacier is at Bana Post which is above 21000 ft in altitude.

Earlier this was the case that army deaths were common in those days.. Then they started to check and train personnel at other high altitudes in other easily accessible areas.
They filter the person there.
After posting they have to relax at Leh & other places gradually taking them to higher altitudes.
They understand the issues now and act accordingly.
Now situation is much improved.

Army rules for general high altitudes require acclimatization of atleast 6 days in immediate lower altitude. I was just wondering if Tourist operators will allow such luxury of days to unsuspecting Tourists. Maybe now insurance companies and evacuation fee companies would start operations there.

These Tourist Oriented companies & Insurance Companies have Not much idea about such AMS related issues, till some more incidents happen till They have to pay compensation of 15-25 Crore per person !

Though companies operating for EBC have some idea and they charge a good amount.
You have to check fine prints of companies documents, how they have covered it.
Some Insurance Expert can put some more light on this !
But before Insurance Companies are involved,
Govt / Army have to put some Emergency Evacuation Infrastructure & Rule of Proper Acclematization in working too.
I know some will not like my point as they may have not that much amount of time / holidays to see Siachen.
But it is for overall average person's capability to adjust with Altitude.
Rules are always made for common man only not for exceptions.
Earlier & even now this is trend to visit to Ladakh for 3 or 4 days only.
Do only Leh or Pangong only.
But who will go 2nd time may like to go to Siachen also.
How this will work ?
It will be seen in next season.

In Winters also
With Shape of Indian economy going from bad to worse in last few years and major banks on verge of failure in India this step was bound to be taken.

Indian government pays very high cost of maintaining presence at this Glacier. Thinking in government is if Red Fort can earn revenue from tourist then why cannot Siachen Glacier which also requires huge funds to maintain. Mere Slogan Shouting crowd does not pays anything as revenues but Tourist will pay but again if some basic facilities and basic security of life is provided to them.
