    Hi,

I have booked flight tickets from Bangalore on 6th May 2017 to Chandigarh reaching at 12:30pm. I want to go to Spiti Valley. Will hire Scorpio from Zoomcar. I have return flight on 14th May 2017 at 1:00pm from Chandigarh.

I have made following rough daywise plan. Please advice if it's doable.

    1) Chandigarh to Shimla
    2) Shimla to Kalpa
    3) Kalpa to Tabo via Nako (Lunch Break)
    4) Tabo to Kaza via Dhankar
    5) Kaza sightseeing visiting Kibber
    6) Kaza to Kalpa
    7) Kalpa to Shimla
    8) Shimla
    9) Shimla to Chandigarh.

Need your expert advice on following things.

    1) How is the weather going to be during that period from 6th May to 14th May ?
    2) Will I get to see snow ?
    3) How's the road conditions all the way till Kaza?

Feel free to include anything that I have missed.

    Thanks in advance.

Weather would be mostly warm, with upper reaches having cold weather, so you will have to carry some warm clothes as well.

    Yes.

Road conditions are a mixed bag, at places they are quite bad, but majority of it is alright.

Add Pin Valley to your plan and unless you have something specific to do in Shimla, skip it. It would be full of tourists.

Would you be proceeding to Shimla on the same day you will land in Chandigarh or on the next day?

I will be starting for Shimla the same day that I land in Chandigarh. It takes around 4-5 hrs to reach Shimla so will be there max by 7pm

You can do something like this:

    Day 1: Chandigarh to Shimla

    Day 2: Shimla to Kalpa

Day 3: Kalpa to Tabo, en route visit Giu to see the 500 year old mummy of a Lama.

Day 4: Tabo to Kaza, en route visit Dhankar and Pin Valley.

Day 5: Visit Key Monastery, Kibber Village, drive up to Losar Village to see snow.

    Day 6: Kaza to Chitkul.

    Day 7: Chitkul to Chail.

    Day 8: Chail to Chandigarh.

This way you will have a sort of buffer to reach Chandigarh and chances of missing the flight due to any unforeseen delay will be less.

Please keep in mind that in early May, most of the hotels is Kaza will likely be closed.

Thanks a much Yogesh. I will follow this but won't Kaza to Chitkul (250Kms) be a long drive and similarly for Chitkul to chail which google map shows 280kms so just wanted to get an idea of how long will be the drives on Day 6 & Day 7?...

Yes, on both the days it would be a long drive. However, you won’t have any major sightseeing to do en route. Add to that, people do Sarahan to Kaza in a single day. Similarly Chitkul to Chandigarh can also be done. However, if you’re planning to drive 7-8 hours at max, then it won’t be feasible.

Need your expert advice on following things.

    1) How is the weather going to be during that period from 6th May to 14th May ?
After you cross shimla you will need warm clothes only.Weather will be cold mostly anywhere bw 15'C to -5'C in kaza.

    2) Will I get to see snow ?
Not sure about snow on roads but yes you will get to see snow around kaza for sure.

    3) How's the road conditions all the way till Kaza?

    Till Rampur : 90% good

Rampur to Khab : mostly bad
