Hi, just reached Manali after a great drive, covering Srinagar, Kargil, Leh, Nubra Valley and Pangong Tso. Thanks to the guides for all the routes and the maps shared on this forum.
Re. the road status, all the roads were as expected. The most unexpected surprise was the Nubra to Pangong Tso road via Agham Shyok. 90% of the road turned out to be paved, with only few 'kachha' road around culverts. The lack of water in the river may be one of the reasons for this. There was a lot of traffic on this road because of this. Few water crossings between Sarchu and Jispa, and Koksar and Manali, but nothing very challenging.
Pangong Tso was not what I saw last 8 years back before the three idiots days! What a horror it has turned out! Less said about Rohtang pass and Manali, the better!
My four years old nephew had a mild attack of AMS on the climb to Khardungla, but a quick administering of oxygen, and climbing down to 17,000 feet brought back things to normal. Thereafter, gradual climbs with a stop for few minutes every thousand metres at the other passes prevented any more incidents.
Hope to share my first travelogue with pictures soon!
