There will not be any warranty any ways since I'll buy that phone in US. What do you mean by unlock the CDMA phone?
Well Sir, I have seen few phones in US available with Global warranty. Its a new concept and is only available with higher end phone. So it might not be available in your case. Have to find a deal for it online. The unlocking can be done on a CDMA phone to use a GSM SIM on it. I have not tried it personally but my friends have done unlocking on Samsung Galaxy series and IPhone. It was quite successful, but still risks are involved. You can easily find local mobile shops with banner "Mobile Unlocking". These guys specialize in unlocking CDMA phones/Dongle into GSM ones. Here is a link with more info on unlocking:

Again, risks are involved. Your phone might never work again. So do it at your own risk.

How about this one... NEW SAMSUNG RUGBY 2 SGH-A847 AT&T 3G CELL PHONE BLACK | eBay

Its samsung, rugged to "military standards" ;) , cheap & available by ebay.in Global Easy Buy.
I say go for it. But the Ebay site says "Not available in India". You can ship it to a US address and then your in-laws can bring it here. The phone looks great plus you get the Flip phone feature you were looking for. It is a very solid contender almost all the features of Samsung Immerse. I think we have a winner.

Here its available locally but the charge is higher... :)NEW SAMSUNG A847 Rugby II 3G AT&T (UNLOCKED) GPS COMPLETE WITH ACCESSORIES | eBay

I'll talk with my inlaws there and see if they can get it cheaper from US.
This one is already unlocked. If the price difference(between this one and the one your inlaws are getting in US) is not more than 1000 bucks you should go for this one. Unlocking can be a tricky procedure and if not done correctly it can make your phone useless. I will suggest you to only buy a phone that is already unlocked.

@ Apoorv: I too just found about the same page about 2 mins back. My inlaws will get details about it in a week whrn they reach NY. Will decide then.

In less than a year, you could have a flip phone back in your pocket. This isn't your average Razr, though. Huawei plans to equip its foldable smartphone with 5G.
In less than a year, you could have a flip phone back in your pocket. This isn't your average Razr, though. Huawei plans to equip its foldable smartphone with 5G.
The rumors that have been circulating about the development of a smartphone with a foldable screen by Huawei have been confirmed by the company's deputy chairman, Ken Hu at the World Economic Forum in China this week, according to Forbes. By mid-2019 this new-generation flip phone will be available for purchase.
This device will be the company's first 5G phone -- and it may be the first foldable screen to hit the market if a competitor doesn't beat it to the punch.
At the end of August, Huawei revealed its "artificial intelligence-capable Kirin 980 processor," which is expected to be used in this upcoming model, as well as an OLED display -- a tech that has been in development for years and has only been recently implemented in phones like the iPhone X and XS.
Samsung then heated up the race when its CEO, DJ Koh, stated that the brand's smartphone with a foldable screen would be unveiled by the end of 2018, but neither of them have shown a prototype to the public at this point. The race to the first smartphone with a folding screen has officially begun, but will their users enjoy this retro style phone that manufacturers and designer strived so hard to escape from?
