Firstly I would like to thanks Master ji (Narender Gautam) and RT Sir (Ramesh Tahlan) for updating me on the road status and terrain.
Kaza was my dream destination after completing Leh (twice), Badrinath and Gangotri.
My plan was to cover Leh again on this trip but there was a sudden change of plan at the last moment and Kaza was set on target.
Also to add: This was my family trip and I was travelling with my wife, my mother, my elder son (7 years) and younger son (2 years). Also one of my friend was travelling with my with his wife (seperate car).
Vehicle used: Maruti Suzuki Swift (Self) and VW Polo
Tyres: 100% (changed before the trip)
Start date: 21-May-2016 -- 0000 Hrs
End date: 26-May-2016 -- 2300 Hrs
Total KMS: 1700 (Dwarka - Kaza - Dwarka)
Road status:
- Delhi - Rampur Bushar: 100% Tarmac -- Few bad patchs from Narkanda to Kumarsain (PWD work in progress)
- Rampur Bushar - Wangtoo: 70% Tarmac -- Till Wangtoo its good and doable.
- Wangtoo to Tapri -- 20% Tarmac rest all Dirt track
***LANDSLIDE ALERT***
There was a recent landslide at Tapri which flushed away the diverted route as well.
The latest diverted route that the local authorities and BRO advised -- vehicles to be moved from Tapri to Urni village (almost 25 kms diverted route).
- Karcham to Akpa - 30% Tarmac rest Dirt track
***AKPA Alert***
AKPA Bridge is not serviciable, vehicle movement is via diverted route.
- AKPA to Pooh - doable but majorly dirt track
- Khab to Nako - Good road
*Restricted Area: As per the latest update from Local Police, capturing images at Khab bridge is prohibited.
- Nako to Chango - doable
- Chango to Sumdo - Completely Dirt track and 90% shooting stones.
- Sumdo to Tabo - Dirt track but doable
- Tabo - Kaza - Dirt track with shooting stones
Started at 0000 hrs from Dwarka, plan was to start early and reach Rampur on time.
First halt at Sadhupul (BRIDGE AT SADHUPUL IS DEAD - REPAIR WORK IS GOING ON)
Day 1: Reached Rampur at 1600 hours
Hotel: River view (700 for triple sharing and 600 for double sharing)
Day 2: Left Rampur at 0500 target was to reach Kaza by late evening.
The drive after Wangtoo was so tough that we were able to reach Nako by 1800 Hrs.
Took home stay between Kazigs and Nako village @ 500 per room
Day 3: Left Nako at 0700 Hrs and drove straight till Kaza. Reached Kaza by 1200 Hrs. Drive was ok. Relaxed at Tabo bridge for more than an hour.
@ Kaza -- stayed at Hotel Spiti Valley for 1100 for triple and 1000 for double.
Hotel was awesome and above all the food quality was of 09/10.
Refilled the car at IOCL outlet and moved to Kaza market.
Next day plan was to go upto losar but cannot move ahead from Lorang village (Road condition is not good).
Went to upto Ki village but due to bad weather, we were unable to move forward to Kibber.
While returning back to Kaza, there is a bridge which connects Losar\Ki and Kaza, there is a kuccha road which leads near the flowing river. Can't believe we spent 2 hours there -- washing car's, enjoying Beer and snacks.
Next day at 0500 Hrs started from Kaza and around 1800 Hrs reached Rampur (same hotel same tariff)
Next morning at 0700 started from Rampur, took few hours break at Sadhupul and reached Delhi around 2300 Hrs.
