Taking care of Camera Lens and Optics

Monsoons have arrived the the Southern half of India and North India is witnessing pre-monsoons. Time for extra care of optics. As the humidity in the air is likely to go up, fungus growth is expected to increase. Dry your equipmewnt in the sun for about 30 to 45 minutes. Dust and clean lenses and recharge your silica gel and keep packets in storage bins where optics are stored. Please do not store equipment in camera bags during the Monsoons as it will encourage fungus. Do not store camera/lens in the same cupboard in which you store clothes. Clothes also encourage moisture and hence bad for optics. If you are going out for photography in high humidity areas, do not keep the equipment in Air Conditioned rooms in the night. If you can't help, switch off AC at least two hours before you start out. On return it is a good idea to use an incandescent bulb kept in a carton to dry lenses and cameras.

Well, I was shocked to see a tiny patch of fungus on my 70-300 mm VRII Nikon yesterday when I removed it for regular cleaning. Does anyone know a better place in Mumbai to get it cleaned.

Thanks in advance.

Get it cleaned as soon as possible before it spreads to the other elements. For time being show the lens some sun which can stop the fungus from spreading.

I agree. Leaving your camera in a moist area will destroy it! It is also recommended not to leave it anywhere since the dirt might infiltrate in the small gaps of the camera. You do not want your camera to appear gunky. Also, thanks for this advice! Will also recommend this thread to other photog enthusiasts.
