Tatapani-Chindi-Karsog: A drive to remember

Going to Neverland
It was almost eleven months back when me and Manish went to Rohanda and completed the trek to Kamru-Nag temple. While returning back we took the Rohanda-Chindi road. Manish was asked by his father to visit a Mata temple before sub-set. We found one such temple on the road-side around 25 kms away on the Rohanda-Chindi road towards Chindi. It was kind of small private temple tended to by an old lady. She informed that this temple was a siddh temple and allowed Manish to offer his prayers and thereafter we left. Manish told me later that he had wished for something and if it gets fulfilled, he would definitely return to thank at this temple. Apparently his wishes were fulfilled and he kept asking me to visit the same temple again. An opportunity presented in the month of November 2018 where we had three days at hand – 19th to 21st and we set out for the temple around Pangana village on the Chindi-Rohanda-Sundernagar road.

We started early on 19th November 2018. Plan was to visit the temple, come back to Chindi for overnight stay and chill out at Karsog. Journey till Dharampur was uneventful. The GPS shows lots of traffic snarls thereafter and showed a shorter route through Subathu-Kunihar-Galog-Dhami-Tatapani route. Roads till Subathu were alright however after Subathu till Kunihar, it was little up and down. However after Kunihar, the road till Galog was a very narrow and secluded stretch with mostly broken roads. Only last few kms before Galog were better. After Galog we crossed the Shimla-Mandi highway and carried on to Dhami. Roads were is better state except for the last few kms before Tatapani. We stopped at Tatapani for evening tea at Hotel Sandhya Hot Springs. The hotel has awesome views of the reservoir and also had an indoor hot spring pool. We were lured by that and decided to stay for the night at this hotel. We checked in and straight away dived into the hot spring pool. We spent close to half an hour at the pool and felt refreshed. Once back to our rooms, we ordered dinner and after consuming it, crashed into our comfortable beds.

Going to Neverland
With relaxed fixtures for the day, we woke up leisurely. After a light breakfast, we left for the temple. The cut for the temple was about three kms before Chindi. The next 15 kms drive was on a narrow stretch. It almost took us 45 minutes hour to reach the temple. The temple was closed. We went to a house besides the temple and asked for the keys. The old lady came after few minutes and opened the temple for us. We paid our obeisance and left with a content mind. In another hour we reached Chindi and checked into the Himachal Tourism’s hotel – The Mamleshwar. We ordered lunch and rested for a while before heading towards Karsog.

Our point of interest at Karsog was the Mamleshwar Temple. We entered the congested town. The temple is situated in the most congested part. We looked for a parking space and found one little ahead of the temple. We found a tea shop there and decided to have a cup of tea along with some Samosa. And discussed little politics over Tea-Samosa with the owner of the shop. Once we finished our second cup of tea, we ended the conversation and headed towards the temple. We had a good darshan and the asked the priest to show us the 200 gram wheat grain belonging from the Mahabharat periods.

Going to Neverland
It was some auspicious day and locals were carrying out a procession of the deity. We joined for a bit before the procession went far. We came back to our hotel and rested for a while before ordering dinner. The night was little nippy but our rooms were comfortable and soon we were snoring away the night. We woke up leisurely once again and after a sumptuous breakfast headed back to home. We reach late at night, exhausted yet satisfied with our travel. Yes, it was a drive to remember.
