what a fantastic lot of images and narrating... truly amazing
I have a trip planned form Dwarka Sec 13 Delhi to Trivandrum.
would be travelling in my Fortuner from Delhi to Pune with my wife
Pick up my son and daughter in Law from Pune,
and head to Trivandrum
I was posted there at Akkulam air force HQs for two years.
and every week end was spend on some beach or mountain top
Now i want to make the trip by road
Ur route along Kinkan would have been amazing no doubt, only wish the road had been a shade better
so its got me wondering,, whether i should take that route
or take the route u took on way back

happy landings

It will be a piece of cake in a Fortuner and the MC Road has been made much better now from the time I had done the route. Try and do it during the monsoons. The route takes on a different life then. And try to do the return via central India (MP - Orccha).

When were you posted at Aakkulam? I was born and brought up in TRV, came to Delhi in 1999, but keep going back there. The lake used to be one of our old haunts during the college days and the ride up the hill. The IAF presence is pretty big there now, having taken over the old Sports School campus. Saw even the sub hunter Il-38 on the tarmac recently, probably for the Brahmos hookup.

codelust.
thanks for that info...
yes...
monsoon is the time to head through the Konkan route...
it one of those that one must do in one life time

I was there during 2004 Mar to 2006 Mar,,
and let me tell you...
it was a fantastic posting
for me.... it was a two year holiday
went to Poowar many times, Kalar, Kanyakumari, Varkala, backwaters, Snake boat race, Nayyar Dam,
visited the Padmanabha Temple many times,
MISSED OUT ON RAMESHWARAM.... ALTHOUGH MY FIRST NAME IS RAMESHWAR
but that is now included on my road trip.

and we have decided,,,, we gonna follow ur foot steps... or rather.. follow the track on which u burnt rubber dude....

Akkulum lake was too good.. the fisherman would give us Rs 10 a fish, we would take three,
give two to the cook, and ask him to make one for us.... is would be alive when he would throw it into the frying pan.
the apartments we lived in, I would go on the roof of the multi story building story, and i could see the lake, the Arabian Sea and the mountains at the same time.
I will put up my images of Kerala on this forum for sure.

Happy Landings
