    Significant Weather Features

    ♦ The deep Depression over interior Odisha & adjoining Chhattisgarh moved further westnorthwestwards during past six hours and lay centred at 1430 hrs IST of today, the 21st September, 2018 over east Vidharbha & neighborhood near latitude 21.2°N and longitude 80.5°E, about 90 km northnortheast of Bramhapuri (Vidharbha) and about 140 km east of Nagpur (Vidharbha). It is very likely to continue to move westnorthwestwards and weaken gradually into a Depression during next 06 hours.
    ♦ Initial west northwestwards movement of the system is very likely to cause widespread rainfall with scattered heavy to very heavy and isolated extremely heavy falls over Vidarbha and widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over south Chhattisgarh and Telangana during next 24 hours.
    ♦ Subsequent to the weakening, the system is very likely to recurve northwards and then northeastwards under the influence of an approaching westerly trough during 23rd25th September. Probable interaction of these two systems is likely to cause widespread rainfall with heavy to very heavy and extremely heavy falls over Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand during 23rd24th September and fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls over the plains of northwest India during 22nd24th September. There is also a possibility of occurrence of thunderstorms with hailstorms over Western Himalayan region on 21st and 22nd September.
    ♦ Heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy falls occurred at isolated places over Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal and heavy rain at isolated places over Tripura, Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Coastal Andhra Pradesh from 0830 hrs IST of yesterday to 0830 hrs IST of today.     Rainfall observed (from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0830 hours IST of today):
    ♦ Rain/thundershowers observed at most places over Bihar, Jharkhand, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal; at many places over East Uttar Pradesh, Konkan & Goa, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Karnataka, SubHimalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and Andaman & Nicobar Islands; at a few places over Vidarbha, Telangana, Madhya Maharashtra, Interior Karnataka, Lakshadweep and Kerala; at isolated places over Rayalaseema, Tamilnadu & Puducherry, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Assam & Meghalaya.

    ♦ Thunderstorm observed at a few places over Assam & Meghalaya,at isolated places over Odisha, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, East Madhya Pradesh, north Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu & Puducherry, Kerala, South Interior Karnataka and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura from 0830 hours IST of yesterday to 0830 hours IST of today.
    ♦ Rainfall recorded at 0830 hours IST of today (5 cm or more) are: Jeypore29; Malkangiri28; Contai25; Balasore14; Gopalpur, Jagdalpur & Digha8 each; Diamond Harbour & Midnapore7 each; Canning6; Ramgundam, Tuni, Puri, Bhubaneshwar, Chandbali, Lengpui and Kalingapatam5 each.
    ♦ Maximum temperature departures as on 20092018: Maximum temperatures were appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at many places over Jammu & Kashmir and Uttarakhand and at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, East Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, West Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Kerala; above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at many places over West Uttar Pradesh, East Rajasthan, Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat region and Assam & Meghalaya; at a few places over East Madhya Pradesh, Marathawada, Punjab, Saurashtra & Kutch, Lakshadweep and Tamilnadu & Puducherry. They were below normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at most places over Gangetic West Bengal and Coastal Andhra Pradesh; at many places over Telangana and Rayalaseema and near normal over rest of the country. The highest maximum temperature of 40.4 °C was recorded at Ganganagar (West Rajasthan) over the plains of the country.

    Friday

    On Thursday night, Tropical Cyclone Daye was located in the Bay of Bengal with wind speeds of 64kmph gusting at around 84kmph. It made landfall over the Odisha Coast near Gopalpur at midnight around 01:30 AM. The Tropical Cyclone has since weakened and will become a Tropical Depression by Friday afternoon.

    The Tropical Cyclone (now downgraded to a deep depression) will cause heavy rain, thunderstorm and gusty winds around northeastern, eastern, central and western India on Friday.

    Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely in Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra on Friday. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on Friday.

    Saturday and beyond

    The Tropical Depression will move westward and be around Madhya Pradesh on Saturday morning. Heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms are likely in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on Saturday.

    Heavy rain and thunderstorms can be expected in Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Assam and Meghalaya on Saturday.

    The Tropical Depression will turn north-northwestward and be situated around Rajasthan on Sunday morning. Heavy to very heavy rain is likely in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh on Sunday, whereas heavy rain is forecast for Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka on Sunday.

    The Depression will move northward and reach northern India on Monday morning and gradually weaken on Tuesday. Heavy rain can be expected in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, Assam and Tamil Nadu on Monday.

    Chandigarh, Sep 21 (UNI) A spokesman of Punjab government informed that as per information received from Ministry of Earth Sciences, the State is likely to experience widespread rainfall during late 22nd to 24th September, 2018.

    Many districts in Doaba, Majha and Malwa are very likely to get heavy (more than 7 to 12 cm) to very heavy rainfall (more than 12 cm) during the above period.
    There is very high probability of extremely heavy rainfall in North Eastern and South Eastern parts of Punjab during 22nd to 24th September, 2018.

    As there is very high probability of heavy to very heavy rainfall in adjoining areas of Himachal hence, above spell may cause inundations of low lying area and water logging in some area.
    The areas likely to get very heavy to extremely heavy rains are Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Nawashahar, Roopnagar, Patiala, Mohali and adjoining area.

    New Delhi, Sep 21: Here is the weather forecast for Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bhubaneshwar for September 22.

    Bengaluru:
    As per Skymet weather, during the next 24 hours, Normal Monsoon will give light to moderate rains over West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, rest of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, parts of Uttar Pradesh, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature will be recorded around 28 degree Celsius and humidity will be around 68 per cent.

    Delhi:
    After a break, Delhi rains make a comeback. All thanks to Cyclone Daye that had hit Odisha coast last midnight. As per Skymet weather, These showers of varying intensity are likely to continue till September 24. Though intensity may vary from place to place but few sharp showers are likely during this time. The maximum temperature will be recorded around 31 degree Celsius and humidity will be around 73 per cent.

    Hyderabad:
    As per Skymet weather, during the next 24 hours,During the next 24 hours, moderate to heavy rain with few very heavy spells is expected over South Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and parts of Telangana. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature would be recorded around 31 degree Celsius and humidity around 72 per cent.

    Mumbai:
    As per Skymet weather, Monsoon would be vigorous over South Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and parts of Telangana, giving heavy to very heavy rains. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature would be recorded around 31 degree Celsius and humidity around 75 per cent.

    Bhubaneshwar:
    Cyclone Daye made landfall over Odisha last midnight, triggering heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over many parts of the stat. As per weathermen, the system would continue to move over land and thus, weakening gradually into a Depression by tonight. Weather conditions would remain conducive for moderate to heavy rains over Odisha during the next 24 hours.

    “As per the latest prediction of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the deep depression over Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclone which will cross Gopalpur coast tonight,” said Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi.
    Padhi further informed that districts of Ganjam, Gajapati, Puri, Nayagarh and Khordha are likely to experience maximum wind speed of 60 to 70 km per hour gusting up to a speed of 80 km per hour.
    “We are alert and each concerned department including electricity has been put on alert and the situation is being closely monitored,” Padhi added.
    Official sources said the wind speed in these districts is likely to increase from 5 pm. As the sea condition is likely to remain rough, fishermen in coastal districts have been warned not to venture into the sea in the next 24 hours.
    Senior officials further informed that district administrations in Puri and Ganjam have been asked to carry out evacuation in vulnerable and low-lying areas in their respective regions.
    Moreover, the Khodha district administration cancelled the holidays of all the Government employees for Friday in view of heavy cyclonic rain.
