Tips on maintaining 2 stroke bikes

Hi all, Could someone please give the details of how to set the oil pump correctly for a Suzuki Samurai. Also what is the recommended 2T oil ratio/quantity that is supposed to be used in case the pump goes kaput.

It is always better to get the 2T oil fed into the engine seperately rather than mixing it with petrol..A good mechanic can easily fix your problem and even if it is needed to replace the pump you can very well use the one of MAX 100 as both these bikes share most of the parts.

Thanks for the insight venkat. I have searched for the normal 2T oil consumption and found that 1 Liter of 2T for every 1200 Kms is what the manufacturer says ( also mentioned is the fuel efficiency of 57 kmpl - normal driving conditions).

Apart from engine oil change, when does a 2 stroke bike requires a silencer cleaning. Gurus please help me with your suggestions as i am new to maintaining a 2 stroke and my friend has left it with me till he comes.

I missed replying to your post the last time I was in this thread. Try sourcing the manual from your friend,as it will have the details regarding the various things to be tuned/replaced and the intervals as well.

If the bike is with a Oil pump(Oil injection system)The engine oil - 2T oil level in this case needs to be checked quite frequently and topped up depending on how many kms you use it on a daily basis. Use a semisynthetic 2 T oil or a fully synthetic 2T oil. I personally have used SHELL VSX and Valvoline 2T which are better than the MAK brand from Bharat Petroleum that you find every where.

Get the carburator cleaned every 3000-4000kms and replace the spark plug every 12k-15k kilometers. With every service check for the 2T oil pump setting and also make sure that the mechanic lubricates the cables.

My suzuki Samurai manual mentions the silencer to be decarbed every 6000kms. One of the best indicators for getting the silencer de-carborised is when you can notice a very oily sludge dripping on the exhaust pipe end.

Hi all,
I have a 1999 TVS- Suzuki Samurai that has clocked 50k kms recently. It has been trouble free and a very reliable bike so far. I have to get the bike serviced and also need to address a few minor issues that seem to be have cropped up with time.

1) There is a slight jerk while in first gear and I suspect the clutch needs some sort of adjustment

2) Oil pump needs tobe cleaned and adjusted as per the manual ( most of the guys do it by seeing the smoke coming out of the exhaust

3) A thorough carb cleaning and tuning

4)Replace the cone ball bearings for the handle.

Please let me know of a Samurai Specialist or atleast some one with 2 Stroke experience ( preferably Yamaha rx)

when u r applying first gear u r bike moves slightly forward because in gear box clutch shaft become loose
