Roing-Anini.jpg

Got up quite early 3 AM .. was listening the rain drops in half sleep. Realized that it was raining the whole night.. then what.. would I be blocked here in Anini…I was getting restless..Really did not want be in Anini any more specially in that climate.. somehow waited till 4 AM…could not lie any more passively .. entered the washroom ..water was freezing cold so succeeded in managing morning chores with the minimal use of water :D

By 4.30 I was fully ready including packing everything and getting ready.. Time to call the sumo counter…as expected he was sleeping and just replied that he would call me back..now another wait… came out of room… It was pitch dark and rain was not stopped… each minute was as if an hour for the wait for his call..

Finally at 5.15 I got a call from him and he was coming to IB to pick me.. Relief ..big one.. I took all my baggage and waited for him at the entrance.. He reached and came out with an umbrella to escort me..also kept my backpack carefully… we drove to the market place and he had to pick some more people from their homes.. So literally I visited entire Anini in that sumo … Finally at 6.15 everything was packed and we were ready to go.. By my side a father and her daughter sitting basically they were from UP but they had been living there from ages.. and his daughter was shifting to Tinsukia for higher education..and she was weeping for leaving her kiddo brother and her adorable mom..

Weather was worse ..i was grateful to almighty that we were moving on road and no news of road blockage due to slide or some other issues…Sumo was jam packed but honestly I was feeling so comfortable in that freezing climate… One lady got into sumo as 1 seat was vacant and started asking all suspicious questions to the driver ‘aage checking nahi hota na aaj kaal ?’ what the hell she was carrying in her luggage??? Not interested to investigate.. Thank god I was not give the charge of opening and closing the gate as one guy sitting on front was performing the duty :p

Driver took a short cut at some point..i assumed that was the new route which was being built for the 365 days good condition road to Anini from Roing but I was not sure whether I am completely correct or not.. Though according to the driver it was short cut and would reduce few kilometres but the road was really remote one… not a single house complete dense jungle and the road was quite narrow… I was sure if there would not be any cloud than the view must had been awesome.. I noticed some very high bridge work was going on which was connecting one hill to another…We were driving at a good pace.. I did not notice a single vehicle plying on that road..

We stopped at a place at 10.30 ..only a single house (hut) was present there.. I was sure it was Lunch break… I just came out of the vehicle it was freezing cold outside I was shivering like anything and cursing myself not to wear thermal … quickly entered the house ..and took my seat.. everyone came down but the sad girl did not come..his father accompanied me.. they served hot rice dal and some radish fry.. dal was boiling even in the small pot but for my hand it was quite normal to touch.. Just imagine how cold the climate would be.. As usual all ladies were present and managing the hotel ..when one lady asked ‘Meat ?’ I asked for what all available but sadly only Beef again L so again omelette.. The hot food tasted heavenly in that cold climate… Price same 100 bucks.. We started from there quite quickly without wasting anytime..

But was it possible I would be travelling in a sumo and puncture would not take place.. yes happened and we together fixed the issue…

I was happy with the sumo driver as he was not like the usual sumo drivers as they used to take their own sweet time.. When I praised the driver by saying this… he showed his actual nature.. Initially I was thinking that he was quite a shy driver who spoke rarely till then…started narrating a story.. once he was coming from Roing to Anini and someone gave him some parcel to deliver in Anini… He casually said that sumo would reach Anini at 4 PM.. but somehow he got late and reached at 5 and got call from the guy who was supposed to pick the parcel from him.. that guy was so angry kept on scolding the sumo driver “tum log #@## thik time pen ahi aate..ek time bolte ho dusre time pe pahunchte ho… passengers ko kitna takleef hota hoga.. tum ko fine dena hoga” Fine… I reserved that word… and fine for him was to deliver the parcel at that guy’s house… He did not have any choice else fine would be more  and once the driver reached that guy’s place he again heard the music once again as by that time he was totally drunk :D Driver finished this story by saying ‘Saala ek to free main saaman leke jaao upar se gaalian bhi khao’ Poor chap.. But really don’t want to comment on their traditions…

We were passing through the dense jungles… Good news was that sun was trying to come out from the heavily clouded sky..that was really a great sign… We stopped by the signal of a guy hardly 14-15 years old… when I looked closely he was blood handed … driver went down and I was a mute spectator from the sumo.. both of them went down from road.. and ohh what I saw they were pulling a large dead bear

Driver came out after cleaning himself.. and narrated the young chap shot the bear but was not able to pull it to the road…quite normal incident for him and for the remaining co-passengers travelling with me..For me as well but never ever knew that bear meat was edible… Driver added as if he was imagining of having a yummy dish made of that meat by saying ‘uska charbi to aur mazedaar hai’ No more comments on this…

Driver had some good selection of music from hindi to nepali to Bhutanese.. I was enjoying both the music and the views outside.. also getting delighted that sun was coming out… again one more stop for an elderly man who needed a lift.. but where was the place. Forcibly he sat on the front row.. so then total 4 were sitting on the front row.. and the closed vehicle was smelling full of alcohol .. Sirji was fully loaded and started speaking .. first got angry on the driver that he was not able to get enough space.. and suddenly he decided that he will sit on the top of the vehicle and travel.. and he was so strong on his words.. so the confused driver stop the vehicle and allowed him to sit on top…and driver was driving little slower thinking of his safety.. driver was really irritated by saying ‘saala ruko tab bhi problem nahi ruko tab bhi problem’ ..

Dhoommm… dhadash…. Sudden brake by driver… when we looked back poor old man fallen down .. honestly I was stopping my laugh like anything… we rushed to him to see his condition when driver went to lift him.. he replied in anger ‘chhuna mat.. $#[email protected]# saala tum logon ko gaadi bhi nahi chalana aata.. saala kabhi nahi baithunga tere gaadi main’.. though we insisted him to set properly and we all were ready to adjust but that arrogant person did not show any interest.. he was not caring for the blood coming out from his head as well.. not ready to receive any medication from us… we did not have any other way so we drove on our way… I was thinking what was happening the day all those funny/sad/scary (actually I was confused to find the proper word to describe those incidents) incidents..

Driver told another incident how he escaped from the Dao attack by another elderly person..Once he was travelling on the same route and the elderly person was sitting on back side and they stopped for a pee break and when everyone boarded the sumo driver just asked everyone reached and he left.. but sadly when he reached Roing he realized/got confused that elderly man had got down at some places on the way and was unhappy that he could not collect the money from him… he was roaming in the market during evening when he spotted that elderly person..and as the elderly person saw him ran to him pulling his dao.. the driver was so much frightened that started running to the forest.. and thankfully some people stopped the elderly man.. and the resolution happened after listening so many good words by the driver and given a good amount of fine to the elderly man :D Life of a driver is not so easy there ..i must say…

During these unlimited stories we crossed the chilly Mayodiya pass and once we were coming down from the pass sun was giving full sign that weather would change very soon.. and I was excited to witness the much awaited sunset over the Dibang valley … It never disappointed me.. what a sunset… I was cursing the weather ..yes I was greedy .. but it was so beautiful the entire Dibang plain was looking so colourful with the fading light of sun… These pictures from moving vehicle could not reach 1% of the beauty what I saw in my own eyes…

We were approaching Roing… I was surprised though on hills it was getting dark but as Roing being on plain there were still time for sun to set…I was the last passenger who got down at the last stop which was the sumo counter.. Sumo counter aunty smiled and asked about my trip.. all well ..she invited me for dinner at her place that night…which I said let me get fresh and settle .. I walked to the same hotel and got the same dirty room :D Took a long bath… much needed.. was feeling so fresh after taking bath after 3 days :D Called Rupam as well he said easily I could get ticket in bus to Tezu next morning.. I walked to aunty’s counter where I got introduced to her niece Sujjain.. she was a think girl.. I thought she must be studying in STD-8/9 but I was wrong she was doing her graduation and the such poor health is only for some disease in her which she had already recovered.. she was a good company for walk to and fro for Government bus stand in Roing.. I was listening her never ending stories from her Nepali origin, her study days in dibrugarh, her struggle in setting up a beauty parlour in Roing…

Honestly in my mind was some really good food was moving..of course I deserve it after eating continuous gobi.. :D and she instantly gave a good news that there used to be a good Bengali hotel…I insisted her to join me for dinner.. but aunty had different plan and was forcing me to visit her home for dinner ..but my concern was her home was some 4-5 kms from my hotel.. so that was a bad idea and I dropped rather changed that we should pack food from Bengali hotel and eat together… Plan was approved by all.. myself and sujjain went to pack the food and aunty closed the counter and started cleaning the place and arranging table and chairs for our dinner..

The hotel was managed by a Bengali lady and her mother-in-law both were so happy to meet a guy who can speak not so fluent Bengali.. Now on orders.. Rice and Chapati, Chicken Kosha,Chicken Curry,Fish fry,Fish kalia, dal, salad, saag, mix veg, papad and whatever was readily available…

We happily returned to the counter which aunty had turned to a nice dining room.. and she had put some Mishmi music…atmosphere was really cool and that to I was eagerly waiting for the much awaited Chicken :D It was indeed yummy each and every dish was true signature of Bengali dish.. might be I was having after a long time.. and I cant forget those time I spent with those 2 ladies..

We chatted till 8 Pm which was ofcourse very late for those places.. I returned to my room after listening some songs I retired very early due to day long journey and heavy dinner …
