I am back on this forum after years.
It is good to see more options available in the pick-up truck / ute category in India. The hilux is one of the most popular ute models in Australia and New Zealand. It is preferred mostly by tradies and farmers as their daily ride and by campers/travellers as a recreational vehicle. I would not harp too much about its off road capabilities. IMHO it is no match to the other options out there like Thar and even the Gurkha. The long wheel base is always a reason of concern.
A good vehicle though for your normal excursions to the Himalayas if you don't take it to exotic locations. Ample space for storage and works wonders with a rooftop canopy plus tent.

Your memory is amazing, yes it has been a while !
May be there is demand which I am not aware off.
I am skeptical this will succeed, mainly due to the price! I do not think this will be launched below INR 30 Lakhs.
This is off Fortuner Platform. Though vehicle looks muscular from outside, I am not delighted with Fortuner Ride quality and internal space. It may be having a good torque and pull & AWD; my choice is ride should be comfortable.
For me it is not worth to spend INR 45 lakh on that car. People are buying due to it is proven reliability! Due to which they get Re-sale value.
